NYC Walking Tours

Anyone know any walking tours available on Fridays in winter? The only one I found was the Village and Chelsea Market eating tours. Looking for something cheaper, without food. Tried Big Onion, Radical, and some of the obvious...

the site that had the eating tours (iMar) also had other tours-things like ride around with a NYC cop. They seemed to have other things besides food tours. What about the big apple greeters? You can do your own with a good map. What are you wanting to see, people here can help.

I've spent a decent amount of my life in NYC, I sorta know where most everything is. I'm looking for detailed historical information on neighborhoods, architechture, inhabitants, etc. I was by city hall one day and a tour came by and the lecture was absolutely fascinating. I feel guilty for knowing the city yet not knowing the city and want to start to learn about the "hidden history" so to speak and it seems like the walking tours go in to great detail of a small area of the city. I figure if I start going regularly, I might actually learn something new!

The Central Park Conservancy has walking tours of the park all year. See<BR>http://www.centralparknyc.org/thingstodo/walkingtours/

I'm not a NYer and went on the Greenwich Village food tour. The locals with us loved it because the guide gave really helpful restaurant info and discussed architecture etc. It was better for them than for me, I enjoyed the food but will not be able to return often enough to appreciate all the helpful tips. It was really more than an eating tour.

Try the 92nd street Y and the Municipal Arts Society. Both give tours(usually on the pricey side), but Friday is tough. Most reasonably priced tours are geared toward NYers and are on weekends since most of us work M-F. The Downtown Alliance (covering the financial district and nearby) does give tours (free?) but I think they're on Thursdays
