NYC visit and Broadway Show

I will be visiting NYC on July 31st through August 4th. Iam travelling with a 16years old. I would love to take him to see a Broadway show but iam not sure which one will be the best choice. I thought about buying tickets on line, but prices seem extremely high. Any suggestions???

The half-price ticket booth at 47th and Broadway is a very good deal. Read some reviews online before you go to compile a short list of plays to see.....the ticket booth usually has a good selection available....it is about $30 for a drama and $40 for a musical. I don't have the web site for the ticket booth but it should not be hard to find.

I think THE FULL MONTY would be good for a 16 year old. It's a musical, a little raunchy and absolutely hysterical. I had tears rolling down my face from laughing so hard! I would take my teenagers to see it. Chicago is fun, also. Les Mis is good for a traditional experience. Have a great time. Try Playbill.com for ticket reductions.

Take him to see the Broadway show "Rent". Or maybe try an Off-Broadway show. "Blue Man Group" is very good and also "Godfadda Workout" which is a spoof on the movie "The Godfather" with one man playing all the parts.

Definitely check out the TKTS booth which sells tickets to certain shows at 25-50% off the regular price. You can check out the website below to get an idea of what shows are showing up on the TKTS line.
http://newyork.citysearch.com/feature/34843/
thank you Philip....

Nothing against the person who suggested Rent, but a friend and I just saw it in Atlanta. I have two teenage sons and I do not feel they would enjoy it. I would suggest something much more comical.
My 17 year old boys thought "Noises Off" was the funniest and best play they had ever seen. They have seen many, because their sister is very involved in theatre. We laughed so hard tears were running down our faces! Highly recommend it.

"Chicago"!
It's got lots of pretty girls (for the teenager) and lots of good music (mom) AND is pretty darn funny (both!)!

Theresa, Vicky, and Steve....
thank you for all of your suggestions!!

I HIGHLY recommend Blue Man Group for a 16 year old... it's a very small theater too, so you won't be too far away from the stage (but i don't recommend "poncho seats" which are the first 3-5 rows).

Hi thereuare,
Just wanted to jump in and ask a slightly off-topic question: What's the difference b/w BMG in Vegas and New York?
Tx.

sign up at playbill.com. It's free and offers discounts that do not require waiting on line. All the visitor's center, i think at columbus circle offers twofer coupons which can be used to purchase tickets from the box office.

Les Mis and Phantom are always great and now discounts are available.

Just a correction on the prices Amy cited about about the cost of tickets at TKTS. It's closer to $50 for musicals and $40 for straight plays.
