(NYC) Union Square Inn

Does anyone have any experience with this hotel?

The price & location seem good -- any horror stories?

Thanks!

I walk past the Union Square Inn almost every day. It is NOT on Union Square, but a 5- to 10-minute walk away, on East 14th Street between Second and Third Avenues. This is a busy treelined, trafficky block full of storefronts, some pretty crummy looking. Gentrification is creepng into the block with a few trendy restaurants and bars, and the some crummy storefronts taken over by young designers. The inn is in a tenement-style building. A quick look in the lobby door shows a recently renovated space. (They renovated when creating the Inn.) I've never gone inside. Do you want me to check it out and get back to you?

Wow -- that's a very sweet offer. It'd be great, but please don't go to any trouble.

Sorry for the delay--summer holidays kept me from going by. Perhaps today or tomorrow I'll check it for you.

Ended up hobbling past there today on another errand. Do I recall correctly that you had been looking ofr a place with DSL or other high-speed internet service? (I swear some of the messages were deleted from this thread!)

Anyway, I went to the Inn today. Unfortunately, it is totally booked so I wasn't able to see a room. (Good thing for me, actually, as there are all stairs.) I asked the desk clerk about "high-speed internet" and received a blank stare.

Finally he admitted, "We're working on that. We just have dial-up."

"Not even DSL dial-up?"

"No."

My only other concern would be the noise if the room faced the front. This is a MAJOR cross-street, with traffic in both directions. The Inn is close enough to the corner to be troubled by the squeal of crosstown busses as they brake for the stoplight. I hope they have soundproof windows. . .

hope this helps.

Thanks so much -- it is a help.

Sometimes, you just have to roll the dice!

If we do end up there, I'll be sure to post a review.

thx again
