Thank you very much for your positive comments on my report, I enjoyed writing it and remembering our trip.
As for the coffee debate, I think I should have stuck to ordering espresso if I wanted a stronger 'brew', or alternatively asked for an extra shot in a latte! Still I'll know to do that in future if (not if...when) we return! |
New York coffee is not strong enough??? That is the first time I have heard that one.
Try going to the midwest. I was served coffee you could see through last time I was out there. Don't worry about doing 9/11 and then Macy's. That's what we all do. And if I recall my history-after London was bombed, life went on there also. |
By the way-excellent report- I am going to save some of your information for the next time I have friends in town.
|
I really enjoyed reading your trip report. It actually sounds like you were talking rather than typing about your experiences. I'm going next month for four days with hubby and plan to see most of the same sites.
Message to Mclaurie (or anyone who knows) Where are Loehmann's, Daffy's and Syms located?) Thanks |
What a charming report. I was born and raised on Staten Island but haven't been to all the places you managed to visit. Glad to hear you liked NYC. I love it too.
|
I'm with Howard , that was one of the best reports on a visit to NYC I've read and you did so much in the short time available. Great work and thanks for the report!
|
Thanks for your positive posts everyone. Hubby assures me the photos are almost done, so I hope to be able to post the link back here soon!
|
Can't wait for the pictures. Since your husband is into photography I hope he will take it as a compliment if my husband and I take some of the same shots when we go.
I've been reading the New York site all winter (booked in Sept) and your report was the best!!!! |
For JilliansMom-
Syms is at 400 park-about 53rd I believe-near the Lever bldg. The website says there is one at Trinity Place- I didn't know that! I always hit 20th Century when in that area. Loehmanns, I have not been to in years but the directory says 7th Ave and 16th. |
Oops -said 20th Century-I meant Century 21- I called it by the name we refer to it by in the office. Woth a stop- next toWolrd Trade center-get to it by 4,5,6 to Fulton.

Thanks for the great report. B&H photo brought a smile to me as my late hubby used to order a lot of photo equip. from there. Looking forward to your hubby's photos.
|
Cobbie - B&H was really fun to go to. I hope you still have a lot of happy memories when you look at your hubby's photos.
As promised, here's a link to our pictures. He's uploaded pretty much every shot he took, so there's quite a few to get through, but I hope you enjoy them. http://tinyurl.com/hhylk |
Thanks Italyagain for the info. Will definitely check them out. Already had Century 21 down and know to go early in the day. (earlier advise from this site)
|
Those are wonderful! A perfect complement to your report. I love them both.
|
Posted my last message before I saw the pictures. They were really beautiful and it makes me want to go now. Thank you for taking the time to post them. Thanks again.
|
I enjoyed reading your report. We are leaving this Friday and a lot of your info will make our trip smoother. Your pics got me excited too. Unfortunately, I have been doing this the past few nights late and then can 't sleep for thinking about the trip! I noticed the pics you have of MTV. Were you there around the time TRL is taped? I have heard that sometimes people come out of the show onto the street. Thanks again for your report and pics!
|
Another questions for those with teens. We had heard that MTV TRL tapes live at 5:00 and that if you are there there is a chance of someone coming out of the show onto the street. Do you know anything about this? Also, do both Good Morning America and the Today show film part outside? Do you know what time you have to be there? Our girls might like this.

Dear quiUK,great report and even better photos. Some are breathtaking especially the one's at central park and times square.I will be happy if my photo's are half as good as those ones for my trip when I go this weekend.
As far as the ground zero topic goes I think the really sad thing is the vendors all lined up selling so called souveniers that are 9/11 related. Are any of their profits going to the victims families,I dought it. |
cindy1mac - Before reading your post, I hadn't even realised we'd ever been in the vicinity of the MTV studio (my days of watching it are long gone!). I had to look back through the pics to see if we had been anywhere near!
I don't think they were recording anything whilst we were around there, although I could be wrong. There were plenty of groups of excitable teenagers around however, but I just assumed that's to be expected in the area. Sorry I can't be more help on this, or the other shows you mentioned, but I hope you and your family have a great trip. |
QuiUK, what a great trip report! Thanks for the access to the photos, they were great -- I really loved the black & whites! I live in NYC (in the East Village) and it was great to hear how much you enjoyed exploring the city and the different neighborhoods. As it happens, my sister (who used to live with me in NYC in the '90s) lives in London (Crouch End), and my brother in law is a photographer -- whenever they come to see us in NYC, B&H is a stop. I'm in London a lot and I love it there as well. Come back to NYC soon, I will give you lots of good, reasonable, excellent restaurant suggestions! And I also agree with the poster who suggested walking over the Brooklyn Bridge, it's really cool. And the Frick is just the best.
