NYC to Yale University

Hello.

I am interested in spending a day at Yale. I understand that Metro North and Greyhound buses go from New York City (Manhattan) to New Haven.

Is the university campus walking distance from the train and bus stations? Or would I need to catch a local bus/taxi to get there?

Also, any suggestions of sights I must see in and around the campus? Interesting walks, eats, neighbourhoods, or university buildings?

You must have pizza in New Haven. There will be other fodorites who will tell you the name of the street and restaurant that I have forgotten.

You need to take a taxi from the train station. Both metro north and Amtrak go to New Haven. Metro North is cheaper and slower.

If you like art, visit the Center for British art.

Metro Noerth is not that much slower since the trains to Boston cannot run at full speed until New Haven since Metro North owns the teacks.

You might want to look into getting pizza at Frank Pepe's. It's a very popular, world-renowned pizzeria. I haven't been in years, but I remember there being a lengthy wait, so maybe go early. The clams pizza is a classic.

Any pizza suggestions walking distance from the campus?

Also, how much should I expect the taxi to cost approximately?

I wouldn't say you necessarily have to take a taxi. The walk from the train station to the Center for British Art, for example, is just under a mile.

For pizza closer to the campus than Pepe's or Sally's, Bar is pretty good. It's open for lunch Wednesday through Saturday.
