NYC to niagaral falls
 

Hi is it advisable to travel from NYC to niagara falls during thanks giving period ? My family of 4 will be at manhattan on the 22nd n heading DC on the 29th. Thks.

Not really

More specifically -- it's about one day of travel EACH WAY between NYC and Niagara Falls, along with one day to visit the attractions there. That's using almost three days to see a sight that is, quite frankly, inferior to many places to visit along the Mid-Atlantic Coast.

inferior?... PaulRabe... how about if I hang by your ankles over the Falls... you might just move it up the list...

It's a one hour flight to Buffalo and a half hour drive to Niagara...

Having visited Niagara Falls five times in my life, the first time 49 years ago, I'll take three days in Manhattan over the falls in a New York Minute. Or a day in NYC, two days in Philly. Or two days in Philly and one day in Washington.

It's not that Niagara Falls aren't spectacular, they are. But visiting them should be combined with a trip to Buffalo and Toronto. If you're starting in NYC and then heading for Washington, Niagara is a quite a bit out of your way.

Four people flying to Buffalo, round trip, plus a rental car that has to cross the border, can add up in cost and time pretty fast. Once again, better to spend that time and money elsewhere.

It's not something I would do.

It will be very cold, possibly heavy snow, and many of the sights are not operating at that time of year - including the Maid of the Mist boat trip.

It's not inexpensive to fly up and back Driving is not really an option - it would take 3 days - one up, one there and one back.

Finally, IMHO it;s just a bunch of falling water I never saw it until we did a road trip to Toronto. Stopping on the way back was fine - but I wouldn;t go so far out of my way - or lose 3 days in NYC.

Frankly the ONLY place I'd advise anyone to travel over Thanksgiving -- the worst time of the year to travel -- is from their driveway into their garage!

I realize many people "have to" travel during that period, but it is not a wise decision to just "choose to" travel with all the travel issues during that period.

Agree with all the others. In driving time, this is the equivalent of driving from southeast Belgium all the way to Italy. Not exactly a side trip.

I live in the area and I agree that is too far away to do as a side trip and I wouldn't make a special trip to see it at that time if the year.

Just so you know exactly what you'd be in for travel-wise. It's more than 400 miles from NYC to Niagara Falls.
