NYC things for male teenagers
 

This is sort of odd for me to post. I grew up in New York, and have at least one-two trips/year. We are going on our annual Thanksgiving trip tomorrow. We will stay with my parents on UWS. Have a 18 yo DD and a 15 yo DS.

We have tickets to MOMA for Friday am and Tickets to Doubt that night. DD wants to head to H&M since we'll be so close after MOMA. She also is taking AP art history this year and wants to view the Met with more careful thought than in other trips. Also think we should try to get into the Frick one day. My son has seen Arms and Armour and Egyption at the Met so many times, he could probably give the tour. Also, many, many times at Museum of Nat. Hist. Haven't done the Intrepid in about ten years, would that be interesting? Last time we were there, there was a Navy ship docked that was giving tours. Do they do that anymore post-911 and how would you find out what ships are in Port?

SO...what I'm really asking is anything new that a 15yo and his Dad could do? Any advice is appreciated....

Is he into sports? If so, has he done the tour of Madison Square Garden? My son and I took it when he was just shy of 14. He really enjoyed it. And I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would.

How about The Intrepid Air/Sea/Space Museum? My DH loved it, and I'm sure a younger version would, too. :) I found it quite interesting myself.

Intrepid is a good idea. I loved the "noshing" tour of the Little Italy/Chinatown and the Lower East Side done by Big Onion walking tours. Very interesting and good tastes of unusual ethnic foods.

Thanks for ides so far, MSG tour might be good, looks like they give them every half hour.

I went to my very first concert at MSG, Elton John. My Mom loves to tell the story about wondering how long the concert would last, calling, and actually talking to a real live person who told her "the building is still shaking, so it's not over yet..."

Not cultural at all, but give the boy and his pops some cash and send them to ESPN Zone, and you might not be able to convinve them to come back.

What does he like? Since I know a lot of 15-year old boys who would love MOMA and H&M and a lot of 18-year old girls who would hate it, alot depends on the kid.

My son loves ESPN Zone and the NBA Store on 5th Avenue.

Well, Mike that's true, and my 15 yo is looking forward to MOMA, but would not be caught dead SHOPPING. Buying clothes for him is not a pleasant experience.

He is interested in architecture, which is one reason to see MOMA since we haven't been since the addition was complete. I'm not too sure of anything else particularly architectural that he would find worthwhile. Could always send them to St. Pat's, it's just such a zoo at this time of year.

He probably would be interested in ESPN zone, however, I'm not sure I can get DH there. So many personalities to deal with. I guess it's better than being boring. Thanks for your help.

If the weather is reasonable, a walk around most NYC neighborhoods is an architectural delight. I love just looking at the buildings in most neighborhoods.

He might like the Cooper-Hewitt, which is a design museum. I always find really cool stuff to look at there.

As of a year or so ago, the Intrepid has a retired Concorde that you can tour. I want to go to NYC just to see that!
