NYC theatre choices for teenager
My daughter (age 13) and I will be making our first trip to NYC this week--any suggestions for appropriate plays(ones that tix might be available for!!)??

Are you looking for plays or musicals? And is there anything that she has already seen and liked/diskliked?

These are off Off broadway suggestions, but The Blue Man Group Tubes is really fun and so is De La Guarda http://www.delaguarda.com/. At De La Guarda, the whole show is above you. The "actors" are hanging from harnesses on the ceiling and do things with paint and water. It's very fun and completely unique.

If she didn't like Cats (I am with her on that one), she may not like Phantom either, same over the top Adnrew Llyod Webber musical, IMO.
Don't rule out a ballet or classical concert, take a look at the following:

In my opinion, comparing Phantom and CATS makes no sense at all, other than that they're by the same person.
I love Phantom and hate CATS. I'm sure others have the opposite view. No reason to not see Phantom, though, just because she didn't like CATS.

URINETOWN was a riot, and there seemed to be a bunch of young people in the audience when I saw it and they seemed to enjoy themselves though it might be a tad sophisticated in the humor and winking references to old musicial for a teen.
Is RENT still around? Teens flock to that show and really love it. It wasn't my thing but I'm also not 13. (or sadly, even very close!)
I loved AVENUE Q but I think it's a bit too risque for her. What do other people think?

HowardR has given you a great list; I would put in a plug for Gypsy--it is a great production and the show has alot of themes that would appeal to a 13-year old. Based on another recent post, it seems that tickets are available.

It was a smash in London. I've seen it. It's fantastic. I'm going to see it again. Unquestionably fine for a young person, also suitable as there is a nice romance. I think it will be a smash when it opens in NY too.
