We just used Carmel a couple of weeks ago from LGA to 54th street and it was $28 for a regular car (for 2) plus tip (somehow we didn't go over a toll bridge -- it was Saturday morning). When we left there were four of us and we had a larger car/minvan. It ended up costing $17 a piece total including tip and tolls. Our experience with Carmel couldn't have been better.

Gekko,
I did the online form on their site and the price quote came up as $55. I'm going to call them today and see what the deal is.

Actually, it came up as $36. I guess if you have more than 3 bags, you jump up to a mini van and then it's $55.
I'm not sure about Carmel, can't get their online to work, so I will give them a call.

Don't pay more than $31 for 2 people, assuming you have a normal amount of luggage. Tell them 2 bags -- they don't count small items. The trunks are huge anyway.

It looks like Carmel is running $28 and they have a $4 off coupon.
Our flight leaves on a Monday at 9:30am.
Any suggestions on allowing enough time to get to LGA from The Kimberly at 145 E. 50th St. We are flying US Air.
Thanks!

When they say "bags" they mean large cases the driver wil have to put in the trunk. Small items you take in the car with you -briefcase, comouter bag, shoulder carry-on etc don;t count.

We called Carmel the day before we left and told them what time our flight left, airline, etc. Figured they knew better than us what the traffic was like at that time. Worked well for us.

How far in advance do you need to reserve the car service?
As we are going to head to the airport the evening before our early morning flight, our plans for that day/evening are not firm yet.

ceg, regarding how far in advance to order a car service:
When I am traveling at a busy time of the day, I go ahead and order the car service about a week in advance or at the very latest, 3 days in advance, Every once in a while, they say--sorry, nothing available. That is pretty rare, but you can always book and cancel if you really have to. You don't pre-pay for the car service.
You say you don't have your plans for the day set yet--but you still have to leave for the airport at a specific time, no?

Gekko May 17th, 2006 08:32 AM

If your pick-up is between 6am and 10am, it's best to reserve 36 or more hours in advance (or you risk not getting a car). For other times, I often reserve 1-12 hours in advance.

Personally, I call Dial7 first, then Carmel if I'm too late.

Calling or reserving online both work, so don't hesitate to use the internet.

Thanks for the replies to my question. As clarification, we are staying at the Newark airport the night before our early morning flight. So our time getting to the airport hotel is flexible.

Thanks for the help!
I ended up making a reservation with Carmel and it's $28 from the airport and $31 on the return trip, but I have a $4 & $3 off coupon!
