NYC soon: any not to be missed museum exhibits or public art installations?
 

Hi everyone

Heading up to NYC soon for an overnight. I will have one afternoon and one whole day to wander and I'm staying in NoMad.

Have you seen any recent exhibits or other art, large or small venues, which you'd recommend seeking out?

I believe Ai Wei Wei has some installations in different parts of the city, for instance. I have yet to look up the big museums to see if anything is in town right now but will do that, this afternoon.

if you are at all interested in this kind of stuff, there is a louis vuitton exhibit going on downtown on Trinity Place, the old american stock exchange. its theme was travel, and it was the evolution of the LV trunks. it was very well presented, and fascinating. and, the best, free!

There is that big modern Chinese art exhibit going on at the Guggenheim. the one that got all the sordid publicity because they thought it was "art" to show animal abuse.

There is also an exhibit at Moma that had a piece aobut it on NPR, about pieces that become fashion Is Fashion Modern? Sounded like something I was not that interested in but you might be.

Not sure what u like but the Frick is a lovely small museum. And my favorite is the Lower Eastside Tenement Museum But you might not have time

I have actually visited the Frick and the LES Tenement Museum on prior trips. I agree, they are delightful.

The Whitney has a small Calder exhibit. From there you can walk the Highline.

There is a Rodin exhibit at the Met I would like to see

According to the Whitney website, the Calder exhibit ended in October.
