NYC SoHo area - restaurant recommendations

We (my wife & I) a're taking a quick getaway trip to NYC this weekend & staying in the SoHo area. Looking for some ideas for lunch or dinner favorites from fellow fodorites in the SoHo or nearby areas. We're not foodies or big eaters, but do enjoy good quality & good flavor. Our usual practice when visiting NYC is to keep an eye out for something that strikes our eye as we come & go throughout the day.

A perfect lunch spot for us is a neighborhood soup & sandwich cafe or a noodle / soup shop. Dinner preference is low key, come-as-you-are bistro, any cuisine. Good flavor, friendly neighborhood feel.

Aquagrill
Raoul’s-an old NY stand-by
Blue Ribbon Brasserie

Some will recommend Balthazar-the bakery is superb, but the restaurant is bit over rated.

Thanks IMD. Aquagrill looks interesting. Any other ideas, SoHo or Tribeca?

Sorry, I do not spend much time in Tribeca any more. You can go to the ultimate comfort food place-Bubby's. Avoid it on the weekends, it is a zoo.

You can venture over to Brookfield Place. I particularly like Mighty Quinn BBQ

You can walk over to Chinatown-For dim sim-Jung Fong, Golden Unicorn, and Nom Wah. For a standard meal-Joe's Shanghai and finish with the Chinatown Ice Cream Factory

Blaue Gans in Tribeca for Austrian food - open for lunch and dinner.

Despana in SoHo for Spanish specialties - lunch.

Osteria Morini in SoHo for pasta.

Northfork's recommendation of Despana is very good. Best chorizos we have had in America, which they make themselves. Store hours and selections are, however, limited.

Quick report back. We had a fun two days in NYC. Weather Saturday was perfect - logged close to 20,000 steps through the day. Had a wonderful dinner at Aquagrill. Old style oyster house, excellent seafood, top notch service. Could not have asked for anything better.

Glad you enjoyed Aquagrill
