NYC sightseeing, shopping
 

Ok, I have been on this site trying to figure out what my granddaughter, I will do while we are in NYC.
Two days at the US Open
Met one day
Limo Tour
Harbor Cruise
Two Plays
Shopping... Conways teen fashion... Daffys...
H&M acroos from Macy's
Resturants we may try... John's Pizzeria...Serendipity...Ellens Stardust Diner...Tao...Rock Center Cafe...Trattoria del Arte.
Have I missed anything? Lots to do I just hope I can keep up with my GD!

Have you asked her if she has any special requests? Some music? Cafe Wha is a popular club for families.

How old is she
Where are you staying
and what are her specific interests (if any, besides tennis,, museums and shopping I am guessing !)

You are going to the MET - at what time? Time to walk from there back thru Central Park or is that in wrong direction from your hotel.....
so if you can share where you are staying and length of visit, it would help

Please reconsider restaurants. You have chosen just about every tourist restaurant in the city except for Tavern on The green.

Please try the ethnic restaurants in the city it is the best selection in the world.

Your Granddaughter will LOVE Conway and it won't break the bank to shop there. The biggest store is on Broadway and 35th, but if you find something and can't find the right size there are 2 more stores, 7th and 35th and on 34th between 7th and 8th.

Your days look very doable but leave room so you are not over scheduled.

Oh and if you see a redhead (short red hair) at Conway it just might be me, lol.

We will be in the city for a week, staying at the Marriott Marquis Time Square.
I am open to any ideas for Restaurants!
I was going by what people recommended on this site. What would be a good place to catch a quick dinner before the theater? Has anyone tried Bobby Flay's?

We just returned from NYC with our 17 year old grandson. I would suggest the Hop On/Off buses, very good commentary, we did that for two days. He also liked the Museum of Natural History, the Apple Store, FAO Schwarz(because he works at a mini-FAO in Scottsdale). We didn't get to Grand Central Station, Lincoln Center for their one hour tour....Have you considered the UN tour? Very good depending on her age. We saw three plays, Hairspray, Altar Boyz, and Drowsy Chaperson(located at Marriott Marquis), all excellent. We also ate at Sardi's and Gallager's Steak House, both in Times Square, reservations necessary.

We have been to Mesa Grill a few times which we like very much. Bolo is a major disappointment.

Since you will in NYC a week you will be over Manhattan so you should not contain your eating to that area. There is one or two good restaurants in the area including Virgil's for BBQ.

Please try either Lombardi's, Tontonno, Pizza Fresca for pizza. John's is good but these places are better

When in Chinatown go to Big Wong (yes that is the name) slap dash service and cheap. Try the chow fun and the ribs.
For dessert go the CFhintown Ice Cream Factory.

For Italian-there are a number of places in the East Village-Cacio e Pepe, I Coppi, and Gnocco.

One morning go to Ess-A-Bagel for breakfast. Bagels should be boiled before being baked and once outside of NYC that rarely happens. Try our best.

Could someone please tell me what the hop on off buses are?

They have tour buses from two different companies...you can buy tickets that allow you to hop on and off wherever their stops are all across Manhatten and Brooklyn with no limits throughout the time your ticket is good for (48 hours is what our time limit was). They have a lot of stops.

I was very impressed with the tour guides and their knowledge. All of the ones we had were native New Yorkers (assuming they all are?).

We just got back from NYC and rode these buses the first two days we were there in order to get our bearings and see the "big picture" of the city before deciding on what specifically to do. It was the best money we spent!

We bought the All-Loops Tour, which takes you all through Uptown, Downtown, Brooklyn and the Night Tour (which was awesome).

Walking across the Brooklyn Bridge is a great idea - have your pizza and ice cream - here is a link tothe page we used when we did it - you can print out and bring w/ you and do your own walkign tour - it has the history, etc. - adn you coudl have pizza at Grimaldi's and there's great ice cream, chocolate shops and stores -

The ice cream place is just down the street from Grimaldis; head toward the water. I will tell you that we were there at 4 pm on a Saturday and had a 45 minute wait for a table. The minute we sat down, they told us they were cleaning the ovens (they do it once a day; I was hoping to get our order in before they did it). It was 1 hour and 45 minutes from the time we walked up to when we had pizza at our table.

Chinatown Ice Cream Factory produced the best ice cream of our 2 week trip: mango papaya sorbet....a relevation!!!

yes definitely go before they clean the ovens or after - or know you are going to have to relax for a bit - my kids just did this walk again this weekend and they never tire of walking over the bridge.

I had read on this board that they clean the ovens "some time between 4 and 6." Hmmm...quite a range. We went to Grimaldi's first thing upon our arrival in town, but there still was a wait and we still hit the oven cleaning. I'd think lunch time would be perfect.
