NYC Shopping

Hi! Does anyone know of any stores selling good designers handbag replicas in the city? Where in the city should I go to to find these stores? It's my first time going to the city and a general location of where it is would be great! Also, do you guys know of any other unique things to see or places to shop at would be very appreciated.

"Good designer...replicas" can mean a lot of things. suarez on Park Ave. & 56 st. sells SERIOUS bags that are not cheap, many made in the same factories as their "real" cousins.

Your other request is so broad it's unanswerable. I recently found a website with some interesting shopping tips. It's here

NY Magazine has a pretty good shopping search engine

nymetro.com/shopping

If you want to be more specific about what you want (ie housewares, clothing (what age group) etc.) we could help.

If you're coming b/w now and the end of the year, there are Christmas Markets in several locations. The first website I mentioned has the info if you do a search on Christmas markets.

I second the Suarez recommendation. But I fear that you may be seeking the illegal cheesy "knock-off" type replicas. In which case, you will not find them in a store, but in a sidewalk stall or on the street. There have been many, many posts about this kind of thing.

Hi..
Sorry! :) I was just trying to catch any recommendations for good shopping. I will mostly be shopping for clothes (both women's and men's) and I wanted some unique stores... not just the typical chains found nationwide. As for the handbags.. that store sounds really good. I am looking for any handbags, both serious, and "cheezy knockoffs". I just want to find a really nice bag that nobody will have here back home (Vancouver Canada). I will be in NYC from the 12th-15th if anyone has other reccomendations. Thank you to both of you who have already posted!!!

You probably want to cruise Canal St. in Chinatown where all the street vendors peddle designer knock-offs. Some vendors will attach the logo or brand name after you've made the selection. My husband bought a cute Kate Spade copy for my daughter and the label wasn't sewn on but just a sticker. It fell of a couple years later.

Yes, Canal Street is where I bought a Kate Spade knock off for $14 (and they glued the label on). It's a gag gift for a young friend. I found ABC Home almost by accident and it was so much fun to walk around and look at everything. Here is the website if you are interested:

There are lots of cool small clothing and accessory boutiques in the East Village, where you can find things that you are unlikely to find elsewhere. It is a fun area to walk around, especially if you are on the young side, with lots of good places to eat and drink. You can also try Elizabth Street and the surrounding area directly south of Houston Street.

You generally find the more unique stores uptown or downtown (the village-east and west, Soho, Nolita) rather than midtown. Still, without a sense of your budget or age it's difficult to advise you other than the 2 websites I gave you will be a help. Since I don't know what shops are in Vancouver, it's hard to tell what will be different.

dailycandy.com is another good website with shops and trends.

Hi again! First, I want to thank all of you for giving me such great tips and directions to places. Just to answer some of your questions, I am 22 years old and would be going with 2 other people who are both guys, ages 23 and 24 years old. My boyfriend is into fashion as well, while his brother is into electronics and small gadgets/ video games. Hope this helps!

You can also find cheap gadgets and other kinds of knock-offs (other than handbags) on Canal St. East Village has some fun funky shops. Cruise uptown and 5th Ave. for high-end dept store fasions. In my younger days (!) I would start at Bloomingdales then head over to 60th and work my way down 5th ave. to Rockefeller Center, then down to Broadway and end up at Macy's. I didn't buy much but my feet got a good workout.

I will be going to NY next week, and the idea about shops around the village sounds like a good idea. You should also go to Barnys. It has very high fashion/trendy cloths and is very New York. Barnys is in midtown, I think near the park? Look at a map. Have fun!
