NYC Shoe Shopping

I am travelling to NYC in May/June and, in addition to all the wonderful things we want to see there, I would love to come home with some great shoes (they are MY thing).

Does anyone have any suggestions as to great places to get shoes (without spending over $400 a pair?).

Te Casan on West Broadway is a very cool shoe store in SoHo. Most of their shoes are less than $300.

Hi JL,

The only 2 places I can think of are on west 23rd between 6th and 5th aves(south side of street). They are just a couple doors down from each other: Medici and Shoegasm. I've seen very cool stuff in their windows (I pass by every morning on way to work).

Have you considered zappos.com?
Free shipping both ways and no tax.

Enjoy your trip!

Century 21...the downstairs level. It's a discount store, so you're not guaranteed to find a shoe you like in your size...but I have seen some fabulous shoes (Marc Jacobs, Oscar De La Renta, etc, and even occasionally Chanel).

Since you have a budget of up to $400, I'll give a second nod to Te Casan.

How old are you? What neighborhood?

There are a lot of shoe stores in Soho that carry hip shoes. Try Tootsie Plohound on West Broadway.

Just walk down the street; you will find something.

Thanks, everyone, for your advice so far.

I will check out zappos.

I love my Fluevogs, so good advice there.

I am, what I like to think, a fairly hip 45-year-old. I love heels, but like flats, too. I wear everything.

Check out Filene's Basement. You can get great deals on lots of stuff.

I hate to say it but 8th street is no longer known as the street of shoes in NYC. The stores have been closing right and left. granted there are definitely still shoe stores on the street, but not near as many.

Well you will want to go to Manolo Blanik on upper east side of course; but Saks shoe store has its own zip code and carry all top brands as well.

I rarely go out for shoe shopping.

I just ordered spring shoes from Zappos on Tuesday and got them on Wednesday.

Otherwise I go to DSW at Union Square.

Another vote for Harry's Shoes (83rd & Broadway). My wife and I are huge fans.

Thanks, everyone! This is so great!

I second the recommendation for Te Casan. I wanted one of everything!

Century 21 has expanded their shore dept into newer store space along Broadway (around the block form the main store entrance but it does connect to the rest of the store through the lower level).

there's also a DSW on 14th/Union Square (same building as Filene's).

Bloomingdale's, Tip Top shoes (upper west side, can't remember exactly where), MooShoes (lower east side, near the Tenement Museum).
