NYC Restaurants near the Warwick Hotel

Hello All,

I have been reading lots and lots of NYC posts and am looking for restaurants near the Warwick. I will be there the last of January for work and we always stand around saying "I don't know - what do you want?" and there won't be any native NY'ers with us so I would love some recommendations from you fodorites.

Can't go to over-the-top as we'll be expensing but don't want cheap either.

And a great breakfast place would be helpful too.

Thanks in advance!

If you want something unique, try Aquavit Cafe. It's not far from your hotel, and they have a nice prix-fixe menu. It's not as fancy or as expensive as the main resaturant, but it's a very nice place to go. You do need to make a reservation. The food is Swedish, though decidedly upscale. If you go during the week, they also have a Swedish home-cooking menu in the cafe that is a particularly good bargain.

I always think Trattoria Dell'Arte is fun. Great antipasto and generally good food for a moderate price. On 7th near 57th - with a giant plaster nose in the window - you can;t miss it.

Remi,an excellent Italian restaurant, is nearby on West 53rd Street, next to the Hilton between 6th & 7th Avenues.

Thank you all for your replies. Now I will have some options to suggest to my coworkers.

Breakfast anyone? I am a sucker for a great Eggs Benedict.

For eggs benedict, try Rue 57 at 57th & 6th ave., 3 blocks north of you or Maison, a French restaurant at 1700 Broadway, open 24/7.

Film Center Cafe is not particularly near your hotel, unless it moved...

Both West 55th and West 56th between 5th and 6th Aves have many, many places to eat. 55th tends to be a little more upscale (though nothing particularly fancy), while 56th is chock-a-block full of delis and other lunchtime work staples. On 55th, I particularly like Onigashima (north side, middle of the block, upstairs) for Japanese. Lyn's Cafe/Certe is a good sit-down lunch place on the south side of the street. And I like La Bonne Soupe for French comfort food and a little slice of France.

The Beacon on W. 56th Street is supposed to have a good restaurant. (I've never made it past the bar, myself!)

As mclaurie said, Rue 57 is good for breakfast, and also decent for drinks. When I worked in the area, I would get my breakfast at Mangia on 57th between 5th and 6th Aves (http://mangiatogo.com).

Also FWIW, the Ernest Klein's supermarket adjacent to the Warwick is a nice, upscale grocery store if you're looking to pick up additional items during your stay...

Hello All,

I wanted to thank all of your for your recommendations - I kept them in my pocket in case we needed them. Turns out most of our evenings were work functions and were already planned.

I did however manage to meet a friend for breakfast and Rue57 was excellent! I didn't have the Eggs Bennie but the French Toast was excellent!

Thanks all!
