NYC pizza

I am going to take a pizza tour of Manhatten next week. I remember seeing on the Travel channel a place close to time square that used to be an old cathedral and is now a pizza joint. Does anyone know this place?

Many people feel the original John's in the village is better b/c of the oven. And then there are those that think John's is not all that...

I hear that Patsy's in Harlem is the best, but still haven't been.

The best pizza in New York -- hands down -- is at Adrienne's Pizza Bar on Stone Street http://www.adriennespizzabar.com/. Order the square pizza. It is much better than the tourist places. No pizza tour in NYC would be complete without it. I also like Pie By The Pound (there is one on the upper east side and one on University Place). You can stop in there for a quick slice of the fresh mozzarella pie -- thin, crispy and delicious.
Happy eating!

According to Zagat's:
The top rated in Manhattan is Grimaldi's with a 25 and Lombardi's and Nick's with a 24. Adrienne's is a 23.
Lombardi's was the first in NYC to use the brick oven.

By the slice, Joe's is great (Carmine St, near Bleecker and 6th Av).
