NYC - Outdoor Dress in Sept?

My wife and I will be in NYC at the beginning of Sept (7th - 10th) and later in the month again (19th - 23rd).

Could you please advise on the required outdoor dress at this time of the year. Would a sweater/coat normally be required during the day? What about at night? Also, should we expect to see much rain?

Thanks

Suggest you check the forecast just before you leave, since you have internet access this can easily be done at www.weather.com. It could be sweater/coat, it could be shorts.

I have been in NYC in Sept the last two years and the weather can be very cold or very warm so possibly pack for all conditions.
One thing that is noticable is that it can be very windy in the shadows of the skyscrapers and can get very cold

September is relatively unpredictable, it can still be warm, or breezy and cold. Mainly it's generally in the 60's -70's, but your best bet would be to check up to a week before coming down.

Temperature-wise, September is one of the best months of the year in New York, usually 60s and 70s, with an occasional 80+.

September is still the summer in New York. Early September can easily be in the 90's during the day - or you may have a cool patch and the high will be n the 70's. Naturally a little cooler at night. Later in the month - the high temps can still range from 90 to maybe 65 or so. You don;t need any type of coat - a thin jacket would be the most you would need. This time of year is not usually rainy - but there are no guarantees.

You should have a blazer/sports jacket anyway for restaurants. Your wife should have something in case evenings are chilly OR if it's very hot, restaurants can get very cold from air conditioning.

If it rains, there are "brollies" on sale at almost every corner (or bring your own foldable one). The most important thing is comfortable shoes for day time for both of you.
