NYC - Millenium UN or NY Hilton?
 

We will be travelling to NYC in early June and we need help choosing a hotel. I've received very good rates at both the Millenium UN and the NY Hilton. Although we don't plan to spend tons of time in our room, I am notoriously particular about where I stay. We usually do 4 star plus hotels and occasionally 5 star.

I stayed at the NY Hilton about 8 years ago and recall that the location was ideal for CP, Times Square, shopping and lots of exploring. From what I've learned on the web, it seems like the Millenium UN is a little more out of the way, but looks like a much nicer hotel.

Any opinions?

The New York Hilton is a massive (1600 room) hotel, but centrally located. The hotel seems to be continually being renovated; I give it an "average-plus" for NYC hotels. The location is excellent; try for an upper (above 25) floor to avoid street noise.

The Millenium UN is smaller and nicer, but the huge drawback is the location... every trip you take starts with either a $2.50 cab ride or a one-mile hike (it's roughly a mile from the hotel to the Lex Line at 42nd St.).

If the rates are equal, take the Hilton.

The rate is just a little cheaper at the NY Hilton, and the location is ideal.

The UN Millenium is a little out of the way - but it's more like a half mile to the Lex ave subway - not a mile. The hIlton location is much more central - but the hotel is a little more standard - definitely not a 4+ = more like a basic 4*.

I was hoping to find something a little more "unique" than the Hilton, but it is hard to argue with the location.

The other thought I had was to stay at a more "boutique" hotel. I've looked at Marcel and Moderne but the reviews seem mixed.

Well you can do a lot worse than the NY Hilton accomodation wise. I've been there several times and while not the best hotel I've ever stayed at, it was perfectly fine and as you've stated the location is ideal. In New York I would prefer a decent hotel in a great location over a slightly better hotel that is out of the way.
