NYC Metrocard

I know that new rules are in place for the NYC Metrocard. Is there still a 7 day unlimited half price senior card available? cost?

I didn't realize there were any unlimited senior fare options for the Metrocard. I thought it was all pay half for each ride and get one free transfer.

There is no such thing as a Senior Unlimited/half price MetroCard (7 day or 30 day).

There is a Pay-per-Ride Reduced fare MetroCard but those must be applied for (picture taken, 65 and older etc).

It takes a while (plan on a month or so) to get your senior metrocard, once you complete and mail in the application for it. It is a reduced price per ride card, that is funded by a credit card or bank account. I would not recommend it for anyone who is only an occasional visitor to NYC.

If you are a senior bring your Medicare card and show to clerk
at subway stations or on buses. Be advised that some subway stations do not have clerks - only vending machines.

The difficulty here is that if you show your Medicare card, you can pay the half-price cash fare for seniors, but you can't pay with a card. It's fine if you want to pay cash only, however, and works on the bus as well.

Thanks everyone...I am of to NYC tomorrow and your counsel is much appreciated.

A 7-day regular unlimited card is only $30 plus $1 for the card, allowing you to ride as many buses and subways as you care to for the week (but only one subway entry every 19 minutes, though transfers between bus and subway and between buses are free). You can't share these cards. It seems a good deal even for a senior, and that's what I'd recommend for you.
