NYC - Memorial Sloan Kettering
Need hotel suggestion for 1 week while staying to help my niece undergo cancer treatments at Sloan Kettering. Can anyone provide suggestions for a safe, clean, reasonable, hotel to stay?
Thanks very much. |

Be sure to mention that you are there for medical purposes at MSK, as hotels in on that list [and others in area] offer discounted prices.

If your niece is an outpatient while undergoing treatment, both of you might be able to stay at Hope Lodge, a beautiful new residential facility in midtown built by the ACS. Residents, from all over the world, stay there at no cost while they are undergoing treatment. A family member can stay with them.

All the best.
Your niece will be in good hands at MSK. |
Don;t know what you mean by reasonable - but if you want something for less than MSK's suggestions you might try some of the upper west side hotels - esp the Newton or the Beacon. the bus through Central Park doesn't take long and there are often deals to be had.

Not sure which facility you'll be going to exactly, but the DoubleTree on Lexington and 52nd has rates starting at $179/night and is a few blocks from the Rockefeller Outpatient Pavillion. I've actually stayed at the hotel (I work a few blocks away) and it's safe, clean, and cheaper than the hotels listed on the MSK site. It's 1 block away from the subway station and several express buses stop outside for easily getting a few blocks north or south, or if you want to avoid the subway.
If you decide to stay there, I'd be happy to give suggestions for eating in the area, and so forth. Best of luck. |
I believe I saw another thread on this some months back. If you search you should find it.
Good luck to your niece! |
I'd suggest checking the MSKH site and the Hope Lodge which is located on W 32nd St, between 6th and 7th Ave. IT's a bit of a treck up to the hospital, but if they have room available that would be the best place.
If that doesn't work try www.priceline and www.hotels.com. Hotels have lowered prices in the city this summer, and occupancy rates are down, so you can absolutley get some good deals right now. Hope things go well, and know that all of us here will be sending good thoughts your way. |
The Affinia Gardens is not far and they have a special running now on travelzoo for $169/night on certain dates over the summer. http://hotels.travelzoo.com/new-york-hotels/601230
This is a suite hotel where all rooms have kitchens and it's a great location both for getting to the hospital and for finding restaurants and services nearby. The Hotel Bentley is even closer to the hospital (but not as nice imo) and is often well priced on quikbook.com The Helmsley medical Tower and another apt. building are used solely by patients and families from one of the hospitals in the area but sometimes you can find better prices for other options on your own. The big benefit to staying at Helmsley or (can't remember the name of the other one) is if your niece were staying with you as an outpatient and needed medical help, they're hooked into the hospital. Lots of good luck. Post back if you need more help. |
