NYC Marriott Marquis
 

I have reserved a room at the Marriott Marquis for October at $198/night. We will go to at least one broadway show. We will be in NYC for 4 nights. Is the location good? Is this a good value? Has anyone had experience with this particular establishment? Good or bad? Thanks!!!

I've stayed several times for a convention. Its a nice hotel - the rooms are decent size for New York - clean - very large. You should not have any problem at all. <BR> <BR> Its right in Time Square. There is a great revolving bar that overlooks the square and you get a great view of the lights and the action on the street. I also paid over $250 to stay there so $198 seems like a decent deal.

That's a very good price, especially for that time of the year, which is a busy one in NY. <BR>The location is very convenient.

I agree with above posts - great location and you got a good price. The only problem I have found with the hotel is that you have to go up one set of elevators to get to the lobby and change to another set which then will take you to your room. That first set on ground level sometimes seems overcrowded and really a hassle. My last several trips to NY I changed to another Marriott hotel - the Renaissance. It is about 2 blocks north of the Marquis. It also has a ground level elevator to the lobby, but it never seems a hassle to get on this elevator. Also, its easier to get in and out of the hotel, espcially if you're coming or going by taxi. Price might be higher than you got, and if much higher, I would take your first choice and ignore the minor inconveniences.

I'll have to correct Larry. You do not have to change elevators to get to your room. Just make sure you go to the correct elevator section on the first floor!

I much prefer the Marriott Renaissance to the Marriott Marquis, and I've always paid lower prices at the Renaissance - even got it for $100 through Priceline once.

there is alot of good advise in the responses here. Based on my experience,I have stayed at the Marquis at least 20 times over the last 10 years. I do not usually stay there now, but if it were my 1st trip to NYC I would definately recommend it. It is the perfect location and I can not tell you how many times and good times I have had at the revolving bar on the 8th or 9th floor which is also the registration desk..for the price you have confirmed at $198 it is as good a bargain as one can get in NYC and I would say..go for it..have a great time and do not fret about it.....

We are also staying at the Marriott Marquis for 5 nights in September. We reserved the hotel through priceline.com and got it for $100!!

Well, guess what - Marriott has decided to remove the revolving bar. Can you imagine the shock when my friend and I walked toward the area and did a double take? The bartender said that they were adding more tables. And I agree with the other poster, Renaissance Hotel is a whole lot more friendlier (I should know since being here since January).

They removed the revolving bar? When? My husband and I were there a few days ago and it was still there. This looks like a jest to me, Jest.

The Marquis generally goes for $100 through Priceline. Someone just got a room there on 8/17 for $100 with PL. Check www.biddingfortravel.com. I think $200/nt is a crank.
