Any experiences at this wax museum? I'm just wondering if it's a tourist trap. It looks wonderful from website!

We went about 1 1/2 years ago and enjoyed it. It is what it is, a wax museum, but it's a good one. The figures are very life like. My kids (teens) enjoyed it too. Not sure what you're looking for but I would recommend it.

Hi Jen, we went to the wax museum last summer. I really liked it and felt it was worth the money. The figures are very well done, and you sort of "walk among them", they are not displays behind ropes. Plan on spending several hours there. There is also an interesting section on how the figure were made. Photos are allowed, so bring your camera!

I visited the NY branch for the first time during the week of September 11 this year. It's pretty neat--the figures are really lifelike. You take the elevator to the third floor and work your way down from there. The first room with the garden party is the best--be sure to observe from the balcony before going down the steps. The museum is a bit overpriced--be sure to look for coupons (the museum itself gives you a coupon as you are EXITING--go figure!). They also give a AAA discount. If the special exhibition room is open at the end--it contains a wax replica of the three firefighters raising the flag from the famous photo of Sept 11 along with music/video images of NYers--be sure not to miss it. What a moving experience--be sure to bring tissues! Actually, that last room made the whole visit worthwhile.

Have you every been to a wax museum? Any wax museum? If so, there's no real reason to go. I can think of probably a million better things to do than Madame Tussauds.<BR><BR>-Darvy

Have YOU ever been to a wax museum? If so, I suppose you hated it. But if someone enjoys wax museums, then why would you discourage them from going to this one?

The wax museum is really cool. My mother wanted to check it out and I really did not want to do it b/c it seemed like such a tourist thing...but then I recalled trying to get into the one in London a few years ago and not being able to get a ticket so I agreed to check out the one here-in NYC. I took a ton of pictures with some of the figures and when I showed them to friends they actually thought we were standing with these famous people (some of them look fake-of course). It was a great experience and I would go back if I had a chance.

Don't forget to see the movie before you leave, it's entertaining and included in the admission.

we went and my husband was so excited he thought it was going to be like the one in london. We had thought it would take at least 3 hours to see it all. Well we were mistaken, it was about 20 each to get in . Some of the figures were so bad that we couldn't figure out who they were. He was completely dissapointed and instead of spending rest of day in NYC we just went home as we had thought it was going to be a fun filled day. A perfect example is when we showed people our picuters they wanted to know who they were supposed to be.

From most of the posters (&amp; a friend who went) it sounds as if NY's Tussaud's is a pretty good one.<BR>Has anyone been to the one in San Francisco? How good is that one?
