NYC luxury suite--special occasion
This is a special occasion for my family to celebrate our daughter's 16th and son's 21st b-day. We haven't taken a "REAL" vacation is over 5 years, so hubby and I thought it would be fun to splurge and go first class all the way. We want to stay in a suite rather than getting 2 rooms.
I am considering the Ritz Central Park, Mandarin Oriental, Trump Towers, and St. Regis. I realize all 4 vary greatly in style and architecture. And, I know it's just a matter of preference, but I actually would appreciate hearing from those of you who have actually stayed at these properties and can tell me about the quality of hotel, suites, and service. Please don't blast me for this extravagance. I really would appreciate your positive comments. |
Hmmmmm...
Before anyone invests too much time and energy answering the OP, I suggest you click on her name and review information already given to her. I thought her daughter celebrated her "sweet 16" back in '04. But maybe the OP was doing advance research. I don't think I've ever read a legitimate trip report from her...not here, nor on the Caribbean or Latin American boards. Maybe I missed the reports, but I don't thiiiiiink so. Her questions seem to follow a pattern, which makes for an interesting read, but not one that makes me want to help. |
Good catch. This is the longest Sweet 16 celebration in history.

Well, if you're taking the time to read katiekate's previous posts, then surely you also noticed that last July after doing a lot of research she said they were cancelling the trip for her daughter's birthday due to some complications. So perhaps this is a long belated promise and they are making it a celebration of both their kids' birthdays -- albeit quiet delayed.
But katiekate, I suggest that while you and your sister and your two daughters are in New York this summer for a couple weeks, that you check out some of these places and decide which you would prefer. By the way, I too am concerned as the two girls going with you this summer are 15 and 17. If you were planning on celebrating your daughter's 16th birthday last summer, I see how she could now be 17, but why still say you're celebrating her 16th? By the way, I hope you report back about what apartment you are staying in this summer. I do see a lot of questions about a lot of places and not much return of information after you stay in all these places. |
My face is red....I'm sorry to of caused such a fuss. Actually, I'm quite serious when I write these things. And, a little hurt you have to read all my past posts to prove if I'm for real. Either answer my question positivly, but don't blast me. That's just not nice!!! No matter if I go or not is my business. Don't you think all could gain insight from positive information rather such a cheap shot??!!
Not that I need to explain myself to ANYONE, but we are the type of travelers who "talk" about going, I do the research (major research) and then for some reason or another we don't go. I can't tell you how many Fodor's report I have copied and filed away for future travels. Back when I was asking about the trip for my daughter's 16th, we did not get go and are just NOW going, but she is 17. The deal about my sister and I taking the girls staying in a apt....had to forfeit that idea due to unforseen circumstances. |
Not quite finished...
MarionCK-"I don't think I've ever read a legitimate trip report from her..." now that's just not true. Please don't bother, I'm not asking for your help! |
Ok, I know I should just let this go, but I'm still bugged.
Patrick, you're right, I think I do "take" more than I give back to this forum. I need to be better with follow-up reports AFTER I've been. I'll try to be better... |
Actually, katiekate, I thought I was defending you. But I didn't know your other two trips to NYC you've planned had been cancelled as well as the original birthday one. However, if you click on your name as we did, you will find a lot of comments about those same hotels you're asking that were given to you the last time you asked for information on those same hotels, with some posts as recent as last week.

Thank you Patrick. I did realize you were defending me and I truly appreciate it. I probably do sound repetitious about the NY hotels...my husband laughs at my perseverance for trying to find the perfect hotel. I wear myself out seeking that type info., so I always appreciate talking to someone who has actually stayed there. i.e. the wear and tear of a room.
But, I promise it has never been done so in a deceitful way or to be on the sly. I probably just need to give a little more information. I only wish I had been on as many trips as I've asked about. As I re-read my 1st question, I said we haven't taken a "real" vacation, I should have said a "family" vacation because hubby and I have taken several just by ourselves. We're not mean parents (ha); just both kids have had school/job commitments that we could never synchronize our days off. Lastly, when I said 16th rather than 17th because it really was for her 16th....we just never took the trip. Now, if I haven't ruined this for myself, I really would appreciate comments regarding the 4 hotels in question. |
Katiekate...I've done the same thing - asked questions about potential trips that haven't happened, for one reason or another. I think others have done this as well. Don't let it bother you too much. Think about alllll the people who post here, then count how many decided to be negative.

Okay, I'll pick one. The Mandarin Oriental. Done. Book it. Don't "wear yourself out" trying to analyze the pros and cons of each. You'll love the Mandarin.
