I'm very interested in taking one of the tours offered here. It's the one thing I really wanted to do and missed the last time I visitied NYC. Have you taken one or several? Do you recommend/not recommend any of them?

1. Piecing It Together: Immigrants in the Garment Industry
2. Getting By: Weathering the Great Depressions of 1873 and 1929
3. The Confino Family Apartment

They all interest me, however I'd guess that the Family Apartment Tour will fill up quickly with families. I haven't made a reservation yet and we are hoping to visit on Sunday.

I took the general tour- that follows the families who lived in the appartment and a visit and history commentary. I thought the tour excellent. IF any of the descriptions are of interest- book it - they fill up.

The Confino family apartment tour was wonderful - very moving for anyone who's ancestors were immigrants (isn't that most of us?). But I've heard the other two are also fascinating . . . but book it ASAP - the tours are small and they have limited slots/times.

While you're exploring the area, be sure to have knish at Yonah Schimmels and gelato at Laboratorio del Gelato. And pastrami at Katz's . . . and pickles from Gus's - and Have Fun!

We did the family apartment tour and it was excellent. The volunteer docent was actually born in the neighborhood. We were able to get tickets on a walk in basis, but it was a nasty rainy day so the crowd was light.

I did the Piecing it Together tour and really enjoyed it. I also stopped at Katz's before the tour and highly recommend it. It's a New York institution.

I second the piecing it together tour... you get a great sense of both how people lived AND how they survived through work. It's one of the coolest little museums in NYC.
