NYC leaves/weather
 

OK, I know I'm asking this a bit early since our trip to NYC begins on Oct. 20, but I'm excited and looking ahead at the weather forecasts. My husband and I are hoping to spend the majority of our time Wed-Sat walking the neighborhoods and parks of the city. We just enjoyed the most beautiful fall we can remember here in MN, but it's well past peak. I understand the leaves in Central Park turn later than most, so can you tell me what stage they are at now?

Our itinerary right now is: arrive early afternoon Wed and spend the afternoon in Central Park. (we're staying in UWS) Evening: dinner somewhere in UWS and possibly meeting friend's daughter for a drink.
Thursday: spend the morning in Riverside Park then a food tour beginning at noon in SOHO/Chelsea Washington Square Park area. After the tour we'll either wander around Washington Square Park some more or head over to the High Line Park.
Friday: wander around some more--we're open to suggestions. If we don't see High Line Thursday, we'll do that on Fri. Any other neighborhood parks we should add to our list? Evening: tickets for Scotsboro Boys.

Is there a comedy club anyone would recommend for Wed or Thursday evening?

I was there on Sunday and everything was pretty much green. There are probably sources on the website where you can keep track.

I've been to Comedy Cellar a couple of times and liked it. I've seen Caroline's recommended also.

Totally still green here. We have not had any cold weather yet, the temps during the day are still in the 60's-7's and ave not dipped into the 40's yet at night. By the time you get here, some change will probably have started.

I noticed your sites to see include Riverside Park, honestly not much to see, it's a green way along Riverside Drive. The only site to see is Grant's Tomb.

If you are looking to spend time in the park, Central Park will have alot to see and is HUGE. You might want to get a map of the park so you see the highpoints, including the Formal Gardens just off 5th Ave around 100th St.

NYC is green. Was out in Jerey yesterday and the very first leaves were just staring to turn - and they're a couple of weeks ahead of us. There may be color by the end of your trip - but lst week Oct/first Nov is typical of Central Park. Weather is still a little warm - high around 70 but cooling off at night.

I am bout 15 miles from NYC (NJ) and the trees have started to change this week!

But on first observation the colors seem very muted. I think the very hot summer will be taking its toll on the fall colors

Still green, but that will change soon. I highly recommend the restaurant Dovetail if you are looking for a dinner spot on the UWS.
My favorite part of Central Park is the Conservatory Garden (105th and 5th Ave)-beautiful gardens and hardly anyone there.

AHHH!!! Yes, the leaves are just starting to turn. We arrived in the NYC area this past Friday and noticed just a hint of color in the trees. Over the weekend we drove further north (near Albany) and saw much more color. This morning we returned to the NJ suburbs of NY and are seeing a lot more color than when we first arrived. I suspect there will be some decent color by the time you arrive on the 20th BUT and it's a big BUT I agree with others who say the colors probably won't be a vibrant this year.

Sunset in NY will be at 6:09PM on October 20 and set about a minute earlier each day as the week progresses. It will be "dark" about 30 minutes after sunset but that of course will depend on how cloudy a day it has been, where you are in relation to the horizon and what's between you and the horizon.
