NYC: Le Gamin cafe - is it recommended?
Hi, I will be leaving for NYC soon and I also have been reading Joie Le Vivre by Robert Arbor who owns these cafes. This book not only got me in the mood to visit France again but in the meantime to try his cafes. Do you like them?

Hi Seaurchin,
Sorry to be so late in my response, but I didn't see your post before (not on here lately very much).

Le Gamin, when the orig one was in Soho was very popular. Different ones opened in a few other neighborhoods. I think the one on Hudson is closed now, not sure, and I meet friends for brunch occasionally at the one on E 5th, It has taken a bit of a downturn-it changed hands. Used to be more of a familiar feeling neighborhoody hang-out ambience. The food is good (some would disagree-but I arrive hungry!)- the fact is that the service can be slow as snails. Without knowing where in the city you will be basing yourself-this one may or may not be a convenient location.

Anyway, I hope you thoroughly enjoy your visit here!!

Thanks Bella, in the meantime I wrote a note to Robert Arbor and he replied that he lost the leases for all of the cafes except the one in Brooklyn. He said that he has a food truck which one can follow on a web site to see where it will be in the city at any time. I will be staying with friends on Long Island (!) and going to family things in nearby states.

The, maybe his food truck will make a special trip out to Long Island and you and your pals can sample the crepes!

A quirky bistro were all the help is French is Flea Mrket. We also like Casimir and Lucien. While we enjoy Cafe De Ville it does not have the atmosphere of that the otehrs do.

All are inexpensive
