NYC La Guardia or Newark?

We have a choice of flying into either airport, which airport is better and more convient to travel to Midtown Manhattan?
PS The difference in airfare between the two airports is nominal, so this would not be an issue.

LaGuardia is closer and easier to travel from than Newark.

People swear by the new Airtrain but then you still have to either walk or catch a cab from Penn Station to you hotel.

No brainer -- LaGuardia. And before you ask, take a taxi.

La Guardia==definitely..only 1/2 hr away..

Another vote for LGA. Quick, inexpensive, yes, take a cab.

LaGuardia LaGuardia LaGuardia!! Absolutely, no question, no-brainer. Cab it, don't be cheap, don't drive yourself nuts. Any hard questions now? :)

I usually fly LaGuardia because of the reasons mentioned. I'm also usually delayed, however. I don't know if this is because NY airport traffic is just heavy or if it is unique to LGA.

Traffic at all NY metro airports is very heavy and the flight that lands exactly on time is rare. I figure anything within 30 minutes is "on time". That said, LaGuardia does seem to have more delays than the others - perhaps because its so much smaller.

Definitely LaGuardia.

I have to agree with the forum. LaGuardia to NYC is always easier and faster than Newark. I have lived L.I., Conn., NYC, and NJ and my experience has always been to fly into LaGuardia if your final destination is NYC.

I'd say it totally depends on the time of day!

If it's on a weekday during rush hour, I'd fly into Newark and take the Air Train. Otherwise go to Laguardia and take a cab.

Case in point: I flew out of Laguardia yesterday morning. It took me 10 minutes to get to the airport at 5:20 AM. My return flight got in at 4 PM. It took me AN HOUR AND TEN MINUTES to get home by taxi. Yes, my taxi ride home was longer than the flight itself.

I've found that the delays at LGA seem not as bad now as before 9/11 -- I don't know if it's because of reduced number of flights or what.

During evening traffic, I never take a cab, when I can take the NY Airport Shuttle service, & get to Grand Central at a fixed price, no matter what waiting I must do. I've taken the M60 & subway too, but have found the Airport Service the best compromise of time/expense/convenience. I would NEVER consider the smaller shuttles they use to individual hotels tho --- take a taxi from Grand Central or Port Authority.

I always take a cab to and from LGA & Manhattan, at any and all hours and I've never had the trip take longer than 45 minutes, even at "rush" hour. (It's always rush hour in New York.)
