NYC-July-Marriott Marquis or Sheraton (TS)
Son graduating high school so taking him to NYC in July. Want to stay by Times Square for about 4 nights, see ESPN, Central Park, other land marks and eat and take in a show. Should we stay at the Marriott or Sheraton, booking through FUN JET with all/hotel. Son and DH are 6' 3" so would like queen beds. Never been to NYC so we want to enjoy as much as possible. Thanks!

I've been to both - and I like the Marriott better. It's a neat hotel and very centrally located. However, they're both good....

There are 2 Sheratons near TS so I'm not sure which one you're referring to. The Sheraton Hotel and Towers is at 811 7th Ave; then there's a Sheraton across the street. I stayed at the one on 7th Ave last month (for business) and wouldn't put it high on my list. While the room was clean, it was small and very basic. The hotel has seen better days IMO and overall definitely needed some updating, cleaning, etc. One of the members of our party had stayed at the one across the street and didn't care for it at all.
I haven't stayed at the Marriott you're referring to, but in general I have had much better experiences with the Marriott chain than Sheraton. |
When I go to NYC for fun I like to stay at the Marquis. While many folks on this board dislike the TS area, I enjoy it and so does my hubby.
The Marquis is a large, sprawling complex that is "flamboyant" for lack of a better word. It is always busy. The rooms are larger than many in New York and this is a plus too. All of the rooms that I have been in have floor to ceiling windows with terrific views. The tour busses are just a block away, and many areas are walkable. You will be in the theater district as well. In the past, there were issues with waiting for elevators but this problem has been rectified - understand that it was quite costly. |
EmilyC's description of the Marquis is spot on. I also agree with DFR that generally speaking, I prefer Marriott hotels to Sheraton hotels. We have stayed at the Marquis and enjoyed it (and the room was large enough for 4 -- in the days when we all shared a 2-bed room).

Another vote for the Marriott Marquis,; rooms are certainly large enough as are the beds...I know because I'm 6'2" tall.
