NYC July 4th weekend

Hi, We have out of town guests coming for the weekend. Any suggestions for things to do? Where would you recommend watching the fireworks? Thanks. Joan

The fireworks are on the Hudson River again.

It has been my experience that besides the area of the fireworks many areas are quiet because the NY'ers leave town.

nCOMEON UPTOWN, lol. We're hosting a street fair on Saturday July 3rd from 11am to 6pm on 145th and Broadway. Be lots of GOOD FOOD, music, family fun and more.

The fireworks are on the west side and I much prefer that location, so much easier to see everything. If you go over on say 42nd Stish, you would get a great view of the barges. Usually there are 3 placed up and down the river and 42ns is around the middle so you would have a great view of all three.

Back to the street fair, since I'm planning it, I am hoping to have more 100 vendors and food stalls and some of the local restaurants are setting up booths as well, we are lucky to have some really good carribean/soul/mexican restaurants in the area.

Love to have you come up and visit!!!!! We have several intersting places to see and a couple of great jazz spots, and historic landmark streets.

YOu might want to splurge for a boat cruise to watch the fireworks.

Make sure you find at least one piano!

Thanks for your quick responses. I've already checked boat cruises. Has anyone done the Circle Line one on July 4th? It's $80, much cheaper than any other that I've found, but would it be comfortable for 5 hours? Do you know any places in NJ that would be good to watch from? Joan

Why NJ? You are going to be in Manhattan, not worth the trip over to NJ just to see the fireworks. And honestly the crowds won't be all that huge. I go every year, and the last time I went to the west side, I was surprised at the lack of crowds, but each year is different.

Have a great time.

ok travelbuff, where on the west side did you view from last year (just between us!) thanks

I think I was around 50th Street, just south of the cruise ship ports and the crowds were not bad at all. The fireworks last year were really wonderful and I brought my little radio to listen to the broadcast, I can't remember who the "stars" where who sang, but the whole show was fun.
