NYC Jersey Boys in April
 

We are going to be in NYC in mid April and I know Jersey Boys is sold out. What I am wondering is if we need to buy the second seller tix ahead of time or if we can just wait until we get to the City. I read somewhere that there is a possibility of finding dropped prices the day before. Any insights would be appreciated. Thanks in advance....

You may luck out and get tickets the morning of at the box office (house seats that are not used) but often they offer only 1 or 2 tickets.

Scalpers typically don't reduce prices - since tickets are usually gone by the day before. You could try it - but I've never know it to work. And the more tickets you need the less likely to work.

We were in NYC for a month last May/June with an apartment just a block from Jersey Boys, which remains the only major Broadway show playing for a year or more that we haven't seen. I went to the box office four or five times in the morning. Twice I was first in line by arriving about an hour before they opened. None of those trips were successful in getting any TWO tickets. One time I could have bought one. I finally decided I had better things to do that stand in that line every day.

Following the scalper ads on Craigslist (and I'd rather drive bamboo spears under my fingernails than actually buy from these guys) I do sometimes see their $300 or $400 prices for Jersey Boys drop to $175 or $200 the day of the show, but even then, they seem to quickly disappear. It seems there is still a market for $300 and up scalped tickets for that show, especially if they are good seats.

Jersey Boys is NOT sold out in mid April. I just did a random search on Telecharge for April 15th and two seats in orchestra were available at normal prices.

I recommend you try Telecharge for each of the days/times you can attend.

I'm guessing since John Lloyd Young (who won the Tony playing Frankie Vallie) and Daniel Reichard have left the show, and it's opening in more and more cities - previews in London at the end of this month and Las Vegas April 4th, tickets will be easier to come by. On Broadway, Michael Longoria is now playing Frankie Valli. He was fantastic when we saw him in a matinee performance.

wondering - don't know how many there are in your party, but last week I walked up to the box office about 30-45 minutes before the Tuesday Jersey Boys show and there were two center orchestra tickets on row J (nine rows back from the stage) available.

MRand, mind telling us what they charged for those seats? I'm trying to figure out if they were standard or priority seats.

If you wait in line the day of the performance, you can get last minute cancellation seats. These are premium seats in the orchestra for non-premium prices - I paid $120 for $300 seats. You do have to wait a couple of hours for the box office to release the tickets but it is totally worth it. Also, I have heard that with John Lloyd Young no longer playing Frankie Valli, the availability is much better for tickets. Good luck and don't buy from the scalpers. I have seen people get totally ripped off.

Ah, the plot thickens...there ARE partial view tickets available and "premium" tickets...I have a hard time justifying those "premium prices." We MAY just wait until we get to NYC---only because there are other shows we could see and I will have time to walk over to the theater each day while dh works. Plus we don't need to sit together after 32 years of marriage (ha)..Thank you all for your advice. I will repost when we return and let you know if I luck out!

If you mean "partial view" in the back of orchestra (under the balcony), there's a large screen for footage from Ed Sullivan, American Bandstand, graphics, etc., the very top of which is blocked by the balcony overhang. It's no big deal. But, I suppose in the interest of disclosure, they're called "partial view".
