NYC jazz with a minor
Anyone know of any jazz clubs that allow minors and won't break the bank?
Are there any off or off, off B'way shows that anyone might recommend seeing next week? |
One Broadway show can serve both purposes. See After Midnight, which us often available for 50% off. It's set in. Harlem jazz club and is a real crowd pleaser.
Or go see Jazz at Lincoln Center performances. I am fairly certain that the jazz club at Blue Smoke will allow minors but probably not young kids. Check their web site. They have many inexpensive sets on week nights and serve great barbecue. |
Thanks, Doug! I've got an older teen and a spouse who doesn't really like musicals, so finding evening entertainment to suit my small crowd has been tricky....

Take a look at Time Out NY, it has comprehensive listings of night time activities:

Thanks IMDone! I did check it out a little, but quickly became overwhelmed since I did not know any of the places. I will have another dive in...

Check out Dizzy's Jazz Club at Columbus Circle

I think any jazz club will allow a child with parents. The Garage in Greenwich Village has no music charge. The Jazz Standard beneath Blue Smoke serves the same food (bbq, burgers, ribs etc.) and has very good jazz. Dizzy's is also a good idea. Mon. nights are cheaper because they have young artists performing. Birdland and Iridum are in midtown near Times Square. North Square in the. washingtonSquare hotel does a very good Sunday jazz brunch.
For off Broadway with an older teen, if you dont mind some off color humor, Avenue Q is extremely popular. |
A vote for Blue Smoke. Good food (by jazz club standards) in an cozy lounge/restaurant space.
