p.s. I only see something about a group fare - am curious to know what this is, too, since I go there next Friday.

Regarding the car services. Do they all meet you at arrivals, or are you likely to have to call them once you arrive? I'm going to be anxious to get into town this next time as we arrive at Laguardia between 4:30 and 5 PM and have a show that evening. If waiting for a car service will take longer than the usual 2 or 3 minutes to get a taxi, then I'm not interested, otherwise I might be.
And frankly, since I don't have a cell phone, and don't want to mess with the public phones, I'd rather not have to call.

phew! I thought I was going crazy!
It depends which car service you use. Some will have the driver waiting for you by baggage claim, and others (like Dial 7, which I hate by the way) you have to call. They'll be by to pick you up very quickly. I've just had bac luck with them!

Neo, it depends and there's no good answer.
I'll tell you what you already know:
First variable - line for taxis. It can be 1 minute, it can be 20. At that time of day??? Who knows?
Second variable - Wait for car service. They say 5 minutes; I've experienced 2-20 minutes. You're SUPPOSED to call the car service once you've already picked up your bags from baggage claim. HOWEVER, sometimes I call earlier, when the bags start coming out. The risk is the car arrives and refuses to wait for you when it doesn't see you ... but I think this is a small risk.
You could make a reservation and call the car service, then if the taxi line is zero, call back and cancel. It's kind of a jerk thing to do ... so I'll just say it's an option. As Norm said on Cheers, "It's a dog eat dog world, Sammy, and I'm wearing Milkbone underwear."
Good luck!

I should have added ... all of the car services will meet you at arrival, but it costs A LOT more (percentage-wise). If cost is not a factor, certainly this is your best option.
Just make sure the company understands what you want ... if the price seems to good to be true, then they don't understand.

OK, will probably stick with the taxi. I've mentioned before that I fly American and get the taxi at the taxi stand just outside American's luggage pickup. I've probably gotten taxis there 20 or more times and have never waited more than a couple minutes, even when the airport seemed like a total zoo with arrivals and I always seem to arrive at very busy times. I kind of think that's a better place to get a taxi than some of the other places -- a driver once told me that it's easy for them to pull into after delivering people to the other airlines, so there never seems to be a shortage of taxis, and there never seems to be much of a line there either.
