NYC in August? and Hotel choice
 

My husband has a conference in NYC near the WTC first part of August. Do I want to go with him? I know you can't predict the weather but do you think it will be miserable then? It would only be a few days so it couldn't be that bad, could it?

The hotel the conference has conference rates at is the Millenium Hilton which has terrible reviews for noise due to WTC construction 24/7 and no WiFi. I'm looking at a small hotel on W. 14th St. Would it be feasible for hubby to take the subway to the conference? Thanks for your input.

Tons of people take the subway to work down there, so I can't imagine why he wouldn't be able to take the subway for conference.

Yes, it'll be hot and humid; but what are you planning to do in NYC? If you're spending most of your time indoors (museums, shops etc), then I don't think the weather matters that much.

I agree with you about the Hilton. An acquaintance of mine recently stayed there, and she said the construction noise was unbearable - all through the night.

August is typically hot and humid - meaning you can do lots of indoors stuff (museums and shopping - of which there are tons) and limited outdoor stuff in the am or evening - esp out on the water, So far we're having a very hot summer - but there's no guarantee - and you might get temps in the 80s.

Weather.com says the average temp is around 84 degrees which is tolerable. Yes, want to spend a lot of time at the Met and maybe do a show. Have to talk tonight but I think I will go for it.

No problem taking the subway, and if you have the time, it's a nice stroll (I do it all the time).

Where on 14th St is the hotel? What hotel? There's a nice Embassy Suites closer to the WTC area.

I was looking at the Chelsea Inn. I like to stay in smaller hotels and it has really good reviews.

If you mean the Chelsea Pines Inn you will not experience ANY noise and you will be made very welcome by the considerate staff. I stayed there in May and was very happy with it. You need to know though that there is no elevator.

Thanks for the info Peter. I did see there is no elevator. Not a problem; I'll get some extra exercise to burn off all that good food I will be eating!

Go! The temperature usually tops out in the 80's. It may reach into the 90's, and it can be humid. But it's certainly not, like, Texas hot. Or even DC hot Even if you like to do a lot of walking, you'll be fine if you dress appropriately. Don't give the weather a second thought.

It can be miserable outdoors but go anyhow, it can also be nice. August is better than July as to weather. Just plan your time according to weather. Take boat trips if it's hot.
