NYC: Hudson vs. Muse vs. Doubletree
 

I'm going to be in NYC from April 30-May 4, and I've narrowed down my options as follows (personal travel, but taking advantage of corporate rates):

Muse (Times Square) $245
Hudson: $220
Doubletree (Times Square) $235

I've stayed the the Muse before and love the place (beds are awesome and they have the fantastic philosphy products), however, I haven't stayed at any of the others. I'd like to keep costs down closer to the $200-$225 range, which leaves the Hudson (or Paramount), but I've seen a lot of negative reviews.

Just wondering which one the seasoned NYC travellers would choose.

If you are going alone, or with only one other person, you probably don't need the room at the Doubletree - they are all suites, with a seperate living room. It is great for families though! The location of the Doubletree is smack dab in the middle of Times Square, it is a mobscene (of course) right outside the door, and there is no real lobby there (it is sort of on a second floor - but no place that I recall with a nice bar). Is the new Gorham Hotel (now called the Blakely) open yet. I loved it there - and that was before they remodeled! I think their new rooms are $225, but I'm not sure when they open.

I'm going with my boyfriend so I figured I didn't need the space offered by the Doubletree, but I think I'd prefer it to the Ian Schrager hotels (haven't stayed personally but have read many negative comments).

I don't know what's happening in NYC that weeknd but a lot of places are sold out, so I may just have to spend the $245 for the Muse.

As I'm sure you've read: the rooms at the Hudson are tiny! If you and your boyfriend are very small people you might not mind. If you're seeing much theatre then the Muse or Doubletree locations would be more convenient. I do agree with the previous poster that it's a mob scene when you walk out the door of the Doubletree. I've stayed at the Hudson and Doubletree but not the Muse but I've eaten in the restaurant there and like the location.

I love hudson, but I do not think it is "worth" $220.

Of the 3 hotels you are considering, I would choose The Muse.

I checked quikbook.com for your dates and this looks like a popular weekend in the city. There are rooms at the brand new Maritime Hotel for $245, which might be fun to try?

My I suggest another hotel for you. It's the Michaelangelo, and it is located on 51th between 6th and 7th. It is part of a boutique Italian hotel chain, and is there only location not in Italy. Really a great place; a piece of Europe in the middle of Manhattan. All rooms are large and they are well appointed.

My husband and I love the Doubletree. When we go to NYC, it's for a theater weekend, and the location can't be beat. The spaciousness of a suite is wonderful.

I would second the Michelangelo, but would be surprised if there was a room for less than the $220 mentioned. I entered the dates of April 30 to May 4 and found the hotel sold out in fact.
