NYC - how easy to get back to the hotel after broadway shows?

I think you're not being realistic if you expect an 8-year-old to stay up late (for him) each evening after a full day of sightseeing.
Between The Lion King, the Music Hall show and Beauty and the Beast, you've probably picked the best three for an 8-year-older. I'd leave it at that for him!

Holly - I agree with HowardR, that's why I was questioning going to so many shows. I know that your Mom wanted to see dancing. You could go ahead and see 42nd Street and not be surprised if your son falls asleep. As far as paying full price, that's why I suggested using TKTS for shows other than the three you listed. That way if your son nods off, you won't feel so bad. Your son would probably not sleep during Stomp, it's noisy enough to keep him awake. And of course a little rest before the theatre is always a benefit for everyone.

Yeah, I'm probably hoping for too much. You guys are right, I know. I'll have to rethink just how much theater is good for him. I am going to try to get seats for a matinee showing of Beauty and the Beast. I'd like him to be awake enough to enjoy the show
