NYC hotels
Need help deciding on a hotel for New years weekend. My choices are The Pierre in a coutyard suite,The Lowell in a deluxe suite or the sherry netherland in a one bedroom suite. They all seem very nice and are about the same price.Your thoughts would be appreciated.Last year we stayed at the Waldorf towers in a one bedroom suite and loved it but I thought it would be fun to try something else and the rate doubled as well.

I guess it depends on what your plans are for the weekend and how much you plan on using the facilities of the hotel. If you plan on going to the fireworks in the park the Pierre and Sherry are more convenient. Apart from that, if the suite at the Lowell has a working fireplace (as many do) that would tip the scales for me. I think the courtyard suite at the Pierre will be pretty dark. If you plan on spending much time in the room during the day, it could be dreary.
Out of curiousity (and b/c I'm trying to do some planning) where are going for NYE? |
Hi Mclaurie,
We are actually have reservations in a deluxe suite at the Pierre. (I made a mistake)We do not have plans for NYE yet, last year we spent it at the Waldorf which was very nice especially since we were staying at the Towers. If your looking for something like that we had a great time. This year we probably will do something with friends who live in the city.I do not think we care about the fireworks and probably will see a few shows that weekend as well.I guess all three hotels locations would work for us.Thanks for the thoughts on The Lowell,my husband loves rooms with a fireplace. |
The deluxe suite at the Pierre on this website looks very nice and has a fireplace, but not sure if it's working (fp). Reviews on tripadvisor though indicate tired decor and downturn in service since Taj took it over from the Four Seasons.
Curious to know what the average age of the other attendees at the Waldorf was last year? I always think of it as being more for an older crowd. |
Duh, forgot the website

The Pierre!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE The Pierre! It has such an old New York feel to it! I just want to dress up in a cinched waisted suit with a hat and gloves and have tea on the rotunda whenever I walk in the door! |
Thanks everyone,I may stay at The Pierre a I have a great rate.
Mclaurie the age range at the Waldorf varied. There were people in the Thirties-sixties.Average would be in the forties but there were also alot of couples in thier thirties. It definitely caters to a more conservative crowd, although we had fun and do not consider ourselves conservative, The band was great, food was good, and there was plenty to drink. It definitely would not be considered trendy as you know but they do a very nice job there for New Years Eve. |
Do the Lowell!
The Pierre is nice. But, the Lowell's service is beyond belief! If you want something special. Do the Lowell. My husband and I have stayed there twice and have enjoyed it so much.It is understated and elegant! |
