nyc hotels

I'm traveling to NYC and plan to stay in Manhattan on May 12-14. Hotels though are extremely expensive. Does anyone have any suggestions on decent hotels that won't blow the budget?

Thanks

Well, hotels seem to be at very high occupancy right now and you're cutting it very close with the dates (and for Mother's Day weekend, no less...)
What exactly counts as "won't blow the budget"? for you? Everyone has a different number in mind

Are you alone or a couple? then you could double check Priceline.

For a weekend you might do better in the Financial district - which will be fairly deserted then - and often offers better weekend rates.

Again though - what is the budget?

I am traveling with another person. Good question on "blow the budget." I think I'm just looking for something reasonable. Most hotels seem to be in the high 100s to low 200s per night. If that's the going rate then ok. Thoughts?

Yes, the going rate for mid-May is going to be in the mid-200s. I don't know what you'll get in the upper $100s.

Check the Helmsley Park Lane on Central Park South.........Should get a room for around $200/night..........

Anything under $200 per night is a pretty good deal these days.

You might want to try applecore hotels - a local group of budget hotels - they seem to have some availabillity for that weekend for not much more than $200 - but you have to add 18% tax to that.

What about Hotel QT? I am sure you can find a room there for below 200.

QT does have rooms available. They're $350 per night plus tax.

Best bet is probably Priceline, but you have to know what you're doing...
