NYC Hotel Recommendations
My husband and I will be in NYC for 3 nights at the end of May. I have been to NYC a few times and have always stayed in Soho (at the Soho Grand). However, this time I want to find a place more centrally located to the city sights - maybe in Midtown, since we only have a few short days.
I have been reading many of the posts on this site and have checked out or am interested in the following hotels and would love more direct advice on the following hotels:
Of the hotels listed below, which would you choose, and why? Are any of these bad choices?
Park Central
The Parker Meridian
Roosevelt Hotel
Helmsley
Kimberly
Michelangelo
Mansfield
Are there other recommendations that would be better? Ideal price range $150-$200/night (roughly). Willing to spend a little more for location/convenience.
Thanks in advance for your posts!

This is such a common topic on this board...I think we all know that you should just go to Priceline and plug in 5 star and see what you get. You are only talking 3 nights...my personal favorite is to stay at the Waldorf BECAUSE of location, location, location and ease of getting taxis in midtown at rush hour! Plus you can get terrific rates. I don't personally like Priceline because of the inability to choose hotels. If you are so open, though, I would just go for it. All on your list are fine.

CF; "asked and answered " does not represent all of us who live in New York - don't let her fool you!
Cab, bus, subway, or walking midtown is easy to navigate. So don't location alone let that be the end-all decision maker.
I have had out of town guests stay at the Kimberly and they had a great stay - friendly staff, nice decor, pretty bath, and they had a room with a terrace!
Please enjoy your stay.

Anyone who says you can get a cab in midtown between 6 and 10PM without a major struggle is a liar, pure and simple. I don't like the subway or the bus when I am dressed up to go out or it is raining or I am carrying luggage, etc. I am sorry if you other posters don't wish to be truly helpful to CF, however I do! For your price range you should go to the Waldorf, you simply won't do better. It has all the facilities that you need and you can walk to most of what you will want from right there.

WOW - when did this become about getting a cab between 6-10pm? I thought CF was asking about hotel choices!
Ok, "again and again" you have plugged the Waldorf enough, and frankly you aren't adding too much here. . . for some one who claims she has read this question every day for 2 years you really don't have much to contribute - apparently you haven't retained what you have read about this topic.
I second the Kimberly, simply for the terrace option!

I would highly recommend the Michelangelo. My mother just spent 4 nights there while visiting us and loved it. It was quiet, comfortable and elegant, without being stuffy. She stayed at the Park Central last time, and while that was OK, the Michelangelo is so much nicer - in a completely different class. I also think the location is wonderful (51st and 7th) because you can easily walk to Rockefeller Center, Times Square, Central Park, etc. and there are several subway lines close by.
She got a great internet rate of $195/night through quikbook.com but I don't think that that rate extends until May.
Just my opinion but I don't agree that the Waldorf is in a great location for visitors. It's in more of a business area so is quite dead after 5 PM and on weekends. Also, there have been mixed reviews about the rooms - it seems some are lovely and some are quite outdated.
Good luck in your search.
