NYC Hotel Pool Access
 

There are some great 4* and 5* Hotels in NYC that do not have pools. Which ones give you access either though spa, rec center or gym?

Too broad a question. Why don't you check with the hotels?

I was considering letting this pass ("You are so helpful. Thanks Big Russ."), but your rejoinder is so insulting that it should not. The fact here is you are asking me and everyone else on this forum to volunteer my/their time to research 4 and 5 star hotels or anticipate which ones you're considering without any parameters instead of doing your own homework and then asking for additional suggestions. Do you KNOW how many 4-5* hotels there are in NYC depending upon which rating system is employed? Are we supposed to know which "great" hotels do and don't have pools off the tops of our heads and then provide full answers for you?

There's another way to go about this.

If there's a part of the city you want to stay, check on Travelocity or booking.com for your dates to see what 4* or 5* hotels come up. Then call those hotels to find out their options for pool access. Sometimes hotels will price match the search engines or come close if you ask them on the phone.

There are not too many top-tier hotels that even have pools. Two that I know of are the Peninsula and the Mandarin Oriental. Both of these will allow you to swim if you book a spa appointment, and those apts will cost you more than $100 for the most basic service. The Peninsula has a special membership deal for the summer months but it is not financially worthwhile for someone coming here only for a week or so. Their pool is on the small side for lap swimming. There are no Olympic-size pool opportunities in Manhattan that I am aware of.

I'd recommend checking out the Parker Meridian (might have a new name now; on West 58th Street), and the UNPlaza, also might have a more current name. Both of those hotels do, or did, allow outsiders to have membership, so they may also allow day passes for a fee.

You can join the NYC Parks Department pool system for $75 a year (Check current price; last I looked it was $75 annually) that entitles you to swim at any of the city pools, of which there are a good number in Manhattan. Unless you have lots of extra cash, the hotel pools are not going to be a good bet, even if you find any that allow day passes. There are also a few YMCAs (and otoher Y's) that allow short term membership; check those out as well)

ekscrunchy: I don't think the OP is asking which hotels allow outsiders day use of their pools/spas. I understood he was asking which higher end hotels have agreements that allow guests to use external rec centers/gyms to swim.

fbwstx: I would only suggest you contact the individual hotels you are considering and ask . . . (they might include that info in their list of amenities on their website)...

It is a question that is difficult for NY'ers to answer unless they have paramours with expensive tastes and a proclivity for swimming.

I realize you're not happy with @BigRuss's response, but this isn't typically the kind of thing people know off the top of their heads. It does require substantial research because it's so fare. Pools in NYC are not typical, even in spas or off-site gyms. There's only one gym chain in NYC that reliably has a lap pool, and that's New York Health and Racquet Club; every location has one. A few New York Sports Clubs have pools. There are a few hotels that offer access to those clubs, but usually only for a fee.

The city operates a handful of indoor pools and in season outdoor pools, but I'm not aware of a single hotel in the entire city that offers access to those.

Finding hotels with a pool onsite is one of the easier things to do when searching. It's a filter button on all of the big travel engines. In addition to the ones listed in Doug's link, there are others.
