NYC - HOTEL PENNSYLVANIA - RECOMMEND?
Has anyone stayed at the Hotel Pennsylvania on 7th Ave in New York City? I'd appreciate your thoughts about it's cleanliness, amenities, and location. Thanks!!!

I stayed at the Pennsylvania in February of '96 for the Westminster Dog Show which is at the Garden across the street. The rooms I was in(mine and friends) were all small but clean. They were doing major room renovations at the time so I would assume the ammenities would be better now. If you are spending a lot of time at the Garden this is a must stay but if not I would look elsewhere where you would be closer to good restaurants and cultural attractions.

My niece and I stayed at The Pennsylvania and it
was fine even before the renovations. We had a room on a high floor facing north and at night the view of the Chrysler Building was awesome. We did notice that it seemed we waited awhile for the elevators at times, but then it is a 1000 room hotel and has very popular rates. We thought the location great as it seemed in the middle if we wanted to go up Fifth Avenue to the cultural/57th Street area or down Seventh Avenue to Greenwich Village and down to Battery Park. At the end of the week when we started to run low on funds after eating at all the touristy places and doing all kinds of sightseeing and shopping, we ate a lot at Andrews Coffee Shop on Seventh Avenue at about 35th-37th Street, which was reasonably priced. The biggest downfall at the Pennsylvania is being just down the street from Macy's and all that good stuff to buy! which was rea |
Going to stay at the NY Hotel Pennsylvania this weekend (5/21/99-5/23/99) and will be able to gather more details after our stay. For the price of $134 / night with AAA who can beat it. I am glad to hear that they have done some renovations in 1997, I will be glad to let people know how they turned out. We are going to a NY Mets game on Friday and were advised not to stay on the West Side near Shea Stadium, so NY Hotel Pennsylvania in Manhattan was a good deal.

I've been in lobby areas several times recently and it looks very nice. The Hotel New Yorker is one long block over at corner of 34th and 8th Ave. It's comparably priced and the same size (1,000 rooms). Check-in was a bit slow but the room was huge and very nice. If you stay at the Pennsylvania do NOT eat at the Lindy's coffee shop off the lobby (unless you want to spend $12 for two coffees, a small juice and a hard roll!). I agree about the location - great for the MSG activities but a bit busy and noisy for other purposes.
