Well if you look at the reviews on tripadvisor.com they are generally good for a budget hotel.
There are some of the complaints you get at any budget NYC hotel (usually from people not used to NYC hotel room sizes and prices) - that the rooms are small, that things are not "nice" enough, that the decor should be better. There is one complaint about a dirty room. But I would suggest if you look at the tripadvisor reviews for any hotel (including 5*) there will be one person complaining about dirt - either because they're fanatical, or because they want to seem important, or they got a bad room the night after the maid broke up with her boyfriend. I wouldn't worry about it as long as your expectations are realistic. |
Er. sorry, Shadow, I see that was your own thread I was referring to!

dunno, there's just something about the name, hate to drop that kind of $ on a hotel with that kind of connotation attached to its name. those of you who are younger wouldn't know it by its historic name, "no tell motel."

That's history. These places are Manhattan-ized.

Guess that's why i said it was the historic name, anon.

You did say "historic", but you also said "dunno, there's just something about the name, hate to drop that kind of $ on a hotel with that kind of connotation attached to its name."
So, you kind of contradict yourself. If you meant that it's purely "historic", then no need to refer to its history in making a decision today. If not, Anonymous' reponse is dead on. Most people would say that, no, it's not worth $250/night to stay in a Super 8. But that's not really relevant. If you want to go to Manhattan at a particular time, and $250/night at the Super 8 is the best price you can find for a decent hotel, then it's probably worth it. Really, when you pay $xxx/night for any hotel (or motel), usually you are really paying for the privelege of being in a certain locale, and the hotel/motel is secondary. Sometimes the hotel is the star of the show, but especially in places like New York Ciy, you're paying to be there, and getting someplace to sleep as part of the deal. If you can put your trip to NYC to another time (as it appears bobchicago28can), you might find better deals, but it's really not at all about whether or not the hotel is "worth it". |
