NYC Hotel Help

We're trying to plan a visit to the city for the weekend after New Year's Day and are looking for any input on the following hotels: On the Ave and Bentley. We'll be with our three daughters (9,15 and 17) and would like to stay in 2 rooms. These hotels have the best discount prices we could find.

On the Ave is at 77th and Broadway, and The Bentley is on E 63rd, almost near the river.

Thanks!

Adele

I live right near the Bentley--I've never been inside, but it doesn't look like a place I'd like to stay. It's right above a gas station, near the entrance to the FDR highway, and looks like a small office building. Also, it's not a real convenient location for subways, etc. I don't know anything about the other hotel, but the location is MUCH better. I'd avoid the Bentley.

I just checked the reviews for both on citysearch.com--you should go check them out. They both had some favorable comments, but the reviews for On the Ave seemed a bit better. Also, as I said earlier, the location is much better.

If you need a large space for a family, try the Manhattan East Suite chain. They have several hotels all around the the city, and all suite.

1 (800) ME SUITE 8is the number for the Manhattan East Suite chain.

Ok, New Yorkers, don't bash me for this recommendation.
My company puts people in the following hotel:
MURRAY HILL EAST SUITE HOTEL
149 EAST 39TH STREET
NEW YORK NY 10016 0913
212-661-2100
It's not fancy and has limited services but other than that it is perfectly fine and well located AND CHEAP!
They have huge rooms and you would not need to reserve 2.

FYI, Manhattan East has changed their corporate name to Affinia and are online at www.affinia.com
They have several properties and often have good specials on offer. It's nice to have the kitchen facilities, especially with kids. A studio room with two queen size beds should work for the three girls, another for yourselves. You can stock the refrigerator with breakfast items, drinks and snacks from the supermarket and cut down on expenses. Staff has always been friendly and efficient, too.

Other nice suite hotels that are reasonable are Shellburne (which is part of the Affinia group) and Hotel Avalon. They both are good midtown locations. The Avalon also includes a decent continental breakdast (it did 2 years ago anyway). Both hotels are very nice and well maintained.

Another reasonably priced hotel (not suite) with consistently good reviews (at least on tripadvisor) is the Broadway INn.

With 3 teenage girls I think YOUR idea of 2 rooms (and 2 bathrooms) is much better than 1 suite! On the Avenue is good. The Beacon Hotel, the Excelsior and the Milburne are also in the same neighborhood, get decent reviews.

You might also want to check weekend packages at the Park South Hotel (parksouthhotel.com) You have to call their 800# for pkgs. but might be of interest if you want to do theater.

As a family of 4, we have stayed in 1 bedroom suites at the Excelsior and the Salisbury, and both were fine.
