NYC Hotel for sale
Let's all chip in and buy it, renovate it, and offer special rates to Fodorites headed to New York. Gotta be a better solution than paying the current exhorbitant rates of NYC hotels. LOL

My parents honeymooned there (spent the night after their wedding really, the real honeymoon was in the British Isles a month or so later). My father loved it, my mother said it was interesting. I do hope nothing strange happens to it.

If it isn't on the National Register of Historic Places or the N.Y.City or State equivalent, anything is possible. (remember the old Penn Station debacle?) I doubt it will be restored as a hotel; my guess would be it will be re-outfitted as condominiums.

OOOOH, if only I had the money, NeoPatrick, I'd be in on the deal with you. But alas, I'll just have to be one of the Fodorites who'll take you up on the special rates.
|
Oh but it specifically says that it IS on the Register of Historic Places. So doesn't that mean that it cannot be torn down and made into something else?
|
flame, if something is on the register, it usually means it can't be torn down, but it doesn't mean it can't be converted into another use (usually its the outside/facade they want retained).

I have some cherished memories, going back. Shirley Clarke had a wonderful place up in the turrets called the Teepee where we made videos and played. It will never again be anything like it was. It's already something completely other than the Chelsea of years ago, and has been sort of a shell of its former self for some years now. A haven for "Fodorites"?? O.M.G. .....Perfect. Quentin would be throwing up into his silk napkin at the thought.
