NYC hotel for book expo
I know, I know, the hotels are pretty much all filled up for the Book Expo to be held at Javits Center. Any suggestions for a simple less expensive place ($230 and under) that isn't too far from the convention?
Any help is appreciated. I'm late at making reservations. Thanks. |
I'd recommend using Priceline to get something so inexpensively.
|
Any recommendations on what area of the city would be OK? I've never been to a convention in NYC and don't know the areas of the city that well.
|
Check The Park South Hotel.
I find them to always be reasonable. Even during marathon weekend when everything else is $400 they are $200. |
Thank you gotravel, I'll check it out. Anyone else?
Your help is always appreciated. |
I'd suggest trying www.hotels.com for suggestions on lots of hotels and the rates for your dates.
Also staying anywhere in the 34th St area, is probably a good idea, because the M34 goes across 34th ST to the Javitz Center and you can catch the bus back across town. I have recommended a cute little hotel which is probably in your budget on 23nd St called the Hotel Grand Union. www.hotelgrandunion.com as a nice smaller hotel, close to everything and 2 blocks from the crosstown bus. There are several good restaurants in the area, and it's also close to shopping. Hope this helps and have a great time while you are here. |
Check out quikbook. also go to the javits center website. they can direct you to some hotel deals. you really do not want to stay walking distance from javits, see if there will be any shuttle bus from javits to major hotels or big intersections. even if you do not stay at one of the offical hotels, you can always walk over and pick up the shuttle bus. do not know the dates, but check out new hotel 373hotel. it is at 35 and 5th, very small rooms, but brand new and quick cab ride to javits.

Thanks for the information about NOT wanting to stay within walking distance to the expo. I did not know that. Very helpful!!! Appreciate it!! I will look at the 373hotel. Sounds interesting. I also like the idea of walking to one of the hotels on the BEA's shuttle service to/from the convention. So far, hotels.com rates are mostly above $275 unless one wants a shared bath... NOOOOO Still looking. I know I'll find something though. Thanks again, one and all. |
If you go to priceline midtown south would be the closest to the Javits and within walking distance. Midtown west would also be a reasonable option.
|
If it is a major convention, which I'm pretty sure the Book Expo is, they will be running free shuttles.
|
I see an advance purchase rate of 232 at the Courtyard Marriott Times Square South. That's a good deal at this property.
|
Still looking. Thanks for the add'l suggestions.
|
Marriott Courtyard rates for the dates of the expo are $263, changing to $399 for the final night. UGH

Have you tried the applecore group of hotels? They are all chain hotels, but reasonably priced and the LaQuinta and Red Roof are on 32nd.
