Any recs on a hotel in NYC? $200 range...maybe a rooftop bar

When?

Agree, "when" a huge factor on price in NYC hotels.

Looked at Royalton, Fitzpatrick, Millenium, Carlton
Anyone know about these??

For a hotel w/a killer rooftop bar in your price range for mis-July, try the La Quinta Manhattan. the Rooftop indoor-outdoor VU bar has awesome views that include the Empire State Bldg. It is relatively undiscovered so isn't as crowded as other rooftop bars, and is more casual than others also. The hotel is a good La Quinta in a good location and has free wifi and complimentary continental breakfast too.

The Royalton is awesome, and well-located, but no rooftop bar.

You're unlikely to get any of these hotels for $200 per night at any time of the year. They're all pretty upscale. The Sofitel is a luxury hotel in Midtown, but it also does not have a rooftop bar as far as I know. For those you want to look at upscale trendy hotels (though the Hotel Metro near Macy's has a beautiful rooftop bar with breathtaking views of the Empire State Building).

The Sofitel is just across the street from the Royalton, on 44th, so it's the same great Midtown location (close to everything, but a quiet street). But I am not familiar with it beyond that.

I paid $270 before taxes for The Royalton over Memorial Day weekend about 2 years ago, got a prepaid deal on jetsetter.com. So deals can be had, but I agree that $200 may be a bit low.

Perhaps the OP should look at prices before asking about specific hotels.

the Royalton seems to have advance pay rooms for about $280 per night then. there are some other deals - with different qualifiers. Assuming a basic room with one bed for 2 people.

The La Quinta Manhattan which I suggestwith rooftop bar with killer views, is below $200 in mid-July.

Affinia Shelburne has a small rooftop bar with views of ESB amd Chrysler buildings. Currently closed for repairs but should be open by mid July. Nicer than the La Quinta. Wyndham Garden Chinatown newish and another option.

Hi mclaurie, glad to see you here. Both of those hotels are over $250 a night in mid-July. It is the $200 price point that makes this one challenging. I have been looking myself for mid-July, that is why I suggested the La Quinta Manhattan, I know it is less than $200 with taxes and fees as I have been checking it daily. This morning the rate for the weekend of July 13-15 is total with taxes and fees $156.74. (AAA rate) and $192.83 best available rate per night.

Those are the lowest prices since I have been checking it daily for the last 2 wks, I am going to book it myself. I have stayed there before, it is clean and a good hotel, not the trendiest but really just fine, And an especially good value and location for that price. And it does have the rooftop bar.

Definitely book that. I really don't think you will find anything better in Manhattan in July.

I will echo emd3 that I also stayed two times at the La Quinta, Manhattan and agree it is quite nice for the $$

Previously stayed at the Affinia Shelburne - comfortable and good location. Would stay again if the price was right.

We also stayed one July at the Millenium located in Midtown East (One United Nations Plaza) the rooms are huge. The check in was very very slow. Unless it has changed you need to make sure you request and get a non-smoking room if that is your preference.

I hope you will report back where you booked and how it turned out.

i should also say that we are willing to pay from $200-$275. im sorry I should have said that earlier.

You may very well find something if you increase your budget to $275, but that's still low for a trendy upscale hotel in Manhattan except in January/February. My suggestion: Find a good hotel you like and visit a rooftop bar for drinks. You don't have to stay in the hotel to enjoy Rare View, for example, at the Shelburne.
