NYC Hotel $150-200 Double?

I have a young (24 yrs old) Korean friend who is going to New York City the first of August for five nights and is looking for a hotel between $150-200 for a double and which is in a good location not too far out - he would rather even pay less but has found nothing even in his range - he says he is not fussy just wants a place that is safe and clean and win a good location for touring around. Cheaper would even be better but can anyone recommend hotels in this price range.

Thank you very much.

Try the LaQuinta at 17 W 32nd street. It happens to be in Koreatown as well. I like it for a moderate option with a free breakfast and a nice (small) rooftop bar.

He should look at the deals on travelzoo.com, chck out kayak.com and hotwire and quikbook.

Any place in Manhattan south of 96th St - and near a subway - should be fine. And there may be deals in the financial district - esp on weekends - due to fewer busines travelers.

We've had good luck using Priceline in NYC. CHeck out betterbidding and biddingfortravel for advice.

Remember that Priceline is for a place for 2 people to sleep. That may be sharing a full sized bed. If that's okay, it's a great deal.

Hotwire can be a bit more expensive but you can make a reservation for 2 beds and/or a room for 3 which will give you 2 beds in the room.

Country Inn and Suites Long Island City. It might be under $100 per night. One subway stop from Manhattan.

Quikbook.com has many hotels under $200 (before tax) for the beginning of August. Some are pre-pay, no cancellations others are cancelable.

Quikbook has a secret sale (must be prepaid and isn't cancelable) hotel 3* superior Central Park for $150/night plus tax for a queen bed that looks like the Hudson. Their rooms are really small but it's a nice location and a nice hotel for a 20something. The Bedford in Murray Hill is $175 plus tax fully cancelable no prepayment also on quikbook.

I would like to thank everyone who responded! Korean friend did go via Priceline and got a double room with one bed for $130 per night for five nights - the Hilton Manhattan East, near the U.N. so he is happy.

Again thank everyone for your responses!
