Hotels for $200 or less are hard to come by and depending upon the season. I would suggest that you go to the website of quickbooks.com to see what's available. Then check them out on two websites: digitalcity.com and citysearch.com for feedback.

Hi Toby,

Have you tried priceline.com. I had been affraid to use it because you can't specify the hotel, just the area and quality (number of stars the hotel receives).

I selected all midtown areas and 3 or 4 star hotel and got Shelburne Murray Hill for $111.00 per night. The next lowest price for that hotel was $239.00 per night and, at some sites, as much as $329.00 per night. I think I got a steal -- I just keep thinking, "That's over $100 per day to spend on other things in NYC.

Again, I was a bit leary because I wanted to specify my hotel - but, I've stayed at Washington Sq. for $189/night and others for close to $200 and from the reviews of the hotel, I'm quite proud of myself.

Abe

NYC has tons of hotels; most of them horribly expensive. The Paramount Hotel is inexpensive and terminally hip- rooms are small though. its in mid-town West-side; around Hell's Kitchen Lincoln Center

I've never stayed there but the roger Williams looks really nice- mid-town 20s or 30s on Madison I think

It's quickbook.com, not quickbooks.

Last weekend we stayed at the Holiday Inn Wall Street for $129 (weekend rate). The room was huge, with 14-ft ceilings, for $9.95 you could have 24-hr internet access. The furniture and bed was comfortable and fairly new. Downside is that it's in the Wall Street area, but hey. For $129/night I'll take a taxi "uptown." It was also very quiet. Obviously, deals are out there -- don't know if you can find such a low price during the week for such a quality room -- but happy hunting! (Note that after all the taxes and including a $6 Heinekins from the mini-bar, the total came to $154.)

We recently stayed at The Roosevelt on 45th and Madison. It's a great location, a clock from Grand Central. Rooms were cozy (small) but clean and they had 2 double beds available (great for families). there's a cute fast food sushi restaurant and a coffee pastry shop at the street level also. Also, the lobby is beautiful. Good rates thru internet sites or the Entertainment book.
