NYC Holiday Decorations

I'm planning a trip to NYC and am wondering how soon after Thanksgiving the city will be dressed up in its holiday finest. I know the "Angel Tree" at the Met (that I love) will be on display beginning Nov.25th. Will most of the store window displays also be ready that week?

I lived in NYC for three years, and I definitely remember most decorations being up by week of Thanksgiving. The tree at Rockefeller Center may be up a little later however.

W've been there Thanksgiving week as late as 2007 and the windows at Macy's, Lord & Taylor (the best IMHO) and Saks were already up. The tree at Rockefeller Center is "lit" the week after Thanksgiving.

Hi,
OK for the beginning but do you know when it exactly end after the holidays ? I have some friends to be in NYC from the 27th of december to the 6th of january.
Thank you

The decorations are up until after New Year's. Some start to come down immediately after, while some stay up for a couple of days. By the 6th everything will be down and the stores full of cruise wear.

Major deprtment store windows are unveiled the week before Thanksgiving. Christmas shops are in place NOW in some department stores . . . Macy's, Lord & Taylor . . .

The Rock. Center tree is lit the Wed. after Thanksgiving, but it's there (un-lit) some time in November. I think it comes down sometime during the first week in January.

There are also some holiday markets around town. The one at Union Square opens the day after Thanksgiving and closes Christmas eve. The Byrant Park one opens in early November and stays open until early Jan.

Thanks MFNYC, we will be there Nov 12-17. I do hope some are up then.

Bryant parks has things going on all year (concerts, movies, etc), many free. During the holiday season there's ice-skating and a holiday market. For more info, check their website: www.bryantpark.org
