NYC Fun Restaurant
We are having a family weekend in april in NYC, people coming in from all around the country, including teenagers and one 8 yr old. Looking for a great restaurant that's lots of fun in nyc- mid manhattan preferred. there will be about 15 of us. Thanks for any ideas.

Our teenage boys like Carmine's, in the theatre district. It's good food, family style. They're good sports about trying all kinds of restaurants, but let's face it--they're teenage boys with huge appetites.
I personally think Carmines is extremely overrated. I find the service awful and the food mediocre.
My suggestion is America on E 18th St, off Fifth Ave. It's a huge place with plenty of noise, so you dont have to worry about the kids being noisy. Saying the menu is extensive is an understatement. There are plenty of good dishes for the adults, and lots of fun stuff for the kids. You can even get a Fluff sandwich.
Try Won-Jo on 32nd St, Koreatown. Kids love the table grills.

It's not exactly midtown, but the food is good, the atomosphere is casual and fun, and if you reserve well in advance they should be able to accommodate your large party:
Serendipity 3, on East 60th Street between Second and Third Avenues, near Bloomingdales. phone 212 838 3531
Awesome desserts, pretty good food, prices very reasonable.

I would select an ethnic cuisine that you don't normally get at home. For example we celebrated Father's Day at the Second Avenue Deli on 10th St. it was noisey and full of families. A deli in NYC is not the same thing you get in the rest of the country. Sandwiches about three inches high, people can swap and try various dishes. For Indian Restaurants go down to 6th Street, for atmosphere Chinatown is full of life and character. Little Italy is on the other side of Canal St. Pick a cuisine and it will be easier to suggest a place.
