NYC for New Year's
 

My question is broad: if you could stay in any hotel that you wanted to in NYC, where would it be? We're looking for something memorable & worth the money. <BR> <BR>All suggestions will be very appreciated! <BR>Thank you

I assume this is either a hypothetical question as there is little hope of getting any room in NYC now for this New Years -- or you are talking about 2002? I am a lover of the Marquis for theatre, but for something special at any price, that would not be the ideal, unless you are really hung up on staying right in Times Square. But be prepared for total madness trying to show your pass to get in and out of the lobby and waiting hours for their elevators. When we left NYC on New Years Eve day last year they were boarding up all the glass at the Marquis so that all the party makers wouldn't be going through it. How about the Four Seasons? Or a suite at the St. Regis. We also once stayed at the Peninsula and thought it was an exquisite small hotel, especially with an upgraded deluxe room. Or to be really close to the action, there are some beautiful suites at the Michaelangelo.

Trump International Hotel & the Palace have rooms avaliable for New Year's Eve, but rates start at around $500 per night. Both I have heard are lovely, but I have not personally stated at either myself. Has anyone else?

We once stayed at the Palace (then the Helmsley Palace). On the advice of a business associate we requested a northwest corner room (I forget the number it ends in). The room was huge and had spectacular views out two sides. That must have been 10 years ago, but I would still think the northwest corner is the place to be.

When in town I like the Parker Meridien on West 56th between 6th and 7th; the staff are all friendly and knowledgable, and it is close to where all the action is without being smack in the middle of it. I'm not sure if they have anything left for New Year's, though.

I agree about the posting for Trump International Hotel & Tower. I've stayed there and it is wonderful, although very expensive (I couldn't afford it, I got a deal through the hubby). The rooms are basically apartments because originally the hotel was supposed to be an apartment building for the wealthy but in NYC I believe there is a law that a certain amount of apartments have to be put aside for rent subsidies so they made them into one side for hotel rooms and one side for apartments. You'll probably see many celebrities coming in and out as well (although as a New Yorker you're not supposed to care :)

Oh also the hotel is centrally located, the rooms are very spacious and many overlook Central Park.

What about the Kitano or the Shoram. Both are midtown. don't know about availability though. <BR>Good luck --- I'm jealous!

Easy. Either the Waldorf Towers (not the regular hotel, the tower part), or The Box Tree.
